April 25, 2022

Happy Monday, Palmetto Bay! Last week was an amazing week to be in Palmetto Bay! So many activities including our Annual Shade Tree give away, Kids' Town Hall (if you missed it , click here) and lady bug releases. Movie Night was rescheduled due to wind advisory and we look forward to seeing you for that event on Friday, April 29th.

As you know, on January 24, 2022, the Village Council voted to deny the Site Plan filed by 17777 Old Cutler Road, LLC. for 480 residential units on the site. The denial has resulted in the applicant filing two legal actions. They have also brought forward an application for Administrative Review based on the code that was approved by the former Mayor and two other Councilmembers back in 2016. This is an important project for you to follow. You can read the statement from our Attorney by clicking here and of course if you have questions, I am just a call away.

This week, the Village will also be hosting a Resiliency Town Hall with some pretty amazing experts. As you know, home insurance premiums have been on the rise for South Florida homeowners at a staggering rate. The State Legislature has said it will be hosting a Special Session to discuss the issue. Your Manager and Council are at the forefront of issues that affect our residents, and as such, I have worked with staff to organize a Resiliency Town Hall to discuss those issues, their cause and effect and what we can do as a community to mitigate their impact. This is an event you won't want to miss. See below for info on how you can participate or click here.

I also had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with the young women and men of the Palmetto Women's Union Club. If you are student at MPSH, I encourage you to learn more about this group and join them in their discussions. Our community's young people are engaged in so many ways. It was inspiring! Special thank you to Virginia for the invite and to their sponsor and teacher, Nicole Swanson. #PalmettoBaysGotTalent

As always, I encourage you to stay tuned into reliable information sources. You can subscribe to the Village Newsletter by clicking here and of course, I am here to answer questions or lend a helping hand. I have enjoyed joining small groups for After Hours with Karyn in your driveway or homes. If you are interested in scheduling a time for me to meet with you and your neighbors, I can also be reached at kcunningham@palmettobay-fl.gov or at 305-799-0695.  I look forward to seeing you in and around the Village. Together we are making Palmetto Bay a better place to live, work, learn, and play.
