News from CCA

Raising the Voice of All Older Coloradans

The Colorado Center for Aging (CCA) is a non-profit organization rooted in four decades of experience as Colorado Senior Lobby. In order to position our organization for the exploding population of people aged 50 and older, and to enable our growth for the future, we determined it was time for change. While the mission of CCA remains the same - to educate and inform the public, community leaders and elected officials on issues that impact the health and wellbeing of older Coloradans – we are concentrating our efforts on connecting with diverse communities across the state.

To achieve more diversity, CCA formed the Voices on Aging Advisory Group. This group recognizes the need to understand the challenges facing older adults within underrepresented, Black, Indigenous, People of Color communities in urban, rural and frontier areas of Colorado. We are interested to learn how communities are finding ways for their residents to live well and age well. In September the advisory group is launching an outreach campaign to gather input from across the state on key challenges older adults are facing in their communities and successes they have experienced for addressing those challenges.

Additionally, CCA believes the time is now for forming a statewide network of leaders and organizations. We think that recommendations coming from a statewide network of aging interests can make a strong impact on public officials. The Voices on Aging Advisory Group will compile the input on challenges and successes collected from the outreach campaign. The input will then be shared at a virtual statewide town hall to be held this fall. Our aim is to facilitate conversations to prioritize the challenges and issues that have been identified for turning over to state legislators in advance of the 2022 General Assembly.

Colorado Center for Aging is committed to developing a statewide platform for raising the voice of all older Coloradans. If you or your organization would like to be contacted by the Voices on Aging outreach campaign, send us an email. We are asking for people to respond to our solicitation by September 15th.

Tuesday, August 31, 2021 - 12:00PM - 1:00PM

In the last year and a half, the need for reframing aging and talking about ageism became clearer than ever. Ageism was exposed during the pandemic. Older workers were pushed out of the workforce in higher percentages than any other groups, and public policies established that negatively affected older people. Yet this time also demonstrated the resilience and contributions of older adults - LEARN MORE
