The sixth Beatitude is when Jesus says, "Blessed be the pure in heart, for they will see God." Last Sunday we spoke a great deal about what we mean by "heart" both physically and as a symbol. Then the discussion turned to looking at things that are pure, followed by ways we can see God. All ages are invited to join us each week for Zoom Sunday School. The next Beatitude we will explore is, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." We live in a world where we need peacemakers as much as ever so we encourage you to add your voice to the discussion.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and we will be collecting bags of this holiday's foodstuffs for our neighbors on Highland Avenue again this year. Our goal will be to provide 40 bags of dinner fixings to complement turkeys which have been donated. Please fill one (or more) reusable bag with the following items:

If you are unable to shop and want to participate, financial contributions will be gratefully accepted. The value of each bag is approximately $20.00. Please send your donation to the church and put Thanksgiving Bags on the memo line. All bags should be dropped off at the church by Sunday, November 22nd for delivery to Highland before Thanksgiving. Please contact Pam Faber if you have questions or need to arrange a pick up of your bag(s).

Love Is the Way by Bishop Michael Curry

Save the date for Saturday, November 14th. For one engaging hour from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, youth from the diocese will be meeting online with the Bishop. This is an "open mic" event where the youth get to ask the Bishop questions. The Q&A will be moderated by Raymond Brady, a young adult from St. Andrews St. Monica’s Episcopal Church. The event ends with one of the Bishop's favorite snacks—tater tots.

Stay tuned for registration details. This is a great opportunity to hear what is on the minds of youth throughout the diocese. It will be fun, so get your tater tots ready for snacking with the Bishop! Joyful participation in this virtual event is greatly encouraged.

For people who might need some church time outside of regular Sunday service hours, St. Martin’s Church will be open for Sanctuary Time on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM. Visitors are welcome to pray, meditate, read, or simply enjoy a moment of peace in our sanctuary. Please check in at the main office upon arrival and follow the usual pandemic safety protocols of hand-sanitizing, masking, and social distancing. Thank you.

With the challenges of 2020, outreach projects more important than ever. Keeping in mind our old motto of “never come to church empty handed”, here is a simple way to help others -

During open sanctuary hours at St. Martin’s Church on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, you are invited to stop in to say a prayer and drop off donations for the homeless and the hungry at the same time.

Local organizations are in need of

St. Martin's will once again hold our annual Christmas Pageant, but with a nod to COVID for it will be a video pageant. So this is a call for all youth, teens, and adults who would like to participate. All you need is a cell phone with a video setting or any other recording device.

The pageant has angels, shepherds, and others who will welcome the baby Jesus. Costumes are optional and can include items you already have around your house. St. Martin's owns props like angel wings and shepherds' staffs if you happen to live close by and would like to borrow something. You are also encouraged to pass this message on to family, friends, and neighbors who live anyplace in the country. They might like to have a non-speaking role in the pageant. Or you can send Deb other people's email addresses and she will write an email inviting them to have a part in the celebration of Jesus' birth. We have room for ALL in this video pageant.
