Mayoral Candidate Events - Mark Your Calendar

This June election will decide who will replace Mark Farrell as SF Mayor. The Dignity Fund Coalition is the lead sponsor of a s enior and disability-focused Mayoral Candidate Forum on April 26 at 10:30AM at the Herbst Theater, 401 Van Ness Avenue.

A second, more informal candidate event is planned for Thursday, April 12 at 1187 Franklin Street, sponsored by SDA, CARA and other local groups. 
Events will focus on issues of concern to seniors and adults with disabilities.  Be sure to mark your calendar. More details will follow soon. 

Dignity Fund Update

As required in the Dignity Fund legislation, the Department of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) recently conducted a needs assessment to identify the biggest gaps in services and support. The contractor, RND Consultants, has shared their initial findings, and will release their draft report in mid March.  Material prepared by DAAS in this process can now be found on the HSA website . The Dignity Fund Coalition  will meet  Wednesday, March 14, from 2:30 to 4:30PM at 825 Howard Street to review the report and work on planning and outreach for the Mayoral Candidate Forum on April 26 (see above).

CLC computer trainers Molly Hankwitz and Anna Ng hosted a recent "Preserving Memories" event at Curry Senior Center. Everyone there was charmed by Rebecca Nichols and her granddaughter Destinee. One highlight was a picture of Rebecca with Mick Jagger - part of a collection of photos highlights from her career with Bill Graham Productions and Flights of Fantasy Productions helping organize music and community events.

The Community Living Campaign and our SF ReServe Program are hosting a Work Matters Forum to raise awareness of the issues facing older adults and those with disabilities of any age seeking to work and contribute. The event will include: 
  • Guest speakers and presentations by those ready and able to provide workforce training and support.
  • Resource and information tables hosted by local organizations.
  • Opportunities to share your ideas about how to better put seniors and adults with disabilities to work. 
  • Ways to sign up for free computer help and training.

Go DEEP To Help Your Community Stay Healthy

DEEP stands for Diabetes Empowerment Education Programâ„¢, a training program providing invaluable information and hands-on activities to help people with diabetes or pre-diabetics to better control the disease and avoid complications. Anyone interested in becoming a DEEP peer educator can become certified by attending a three-day training March 19-21, 2018  (8:30am to 5:00pm) in San Francisco's Richmond District. DEEP is especially looking for people with bilingual skills. There is no cost to the training if the trainee agrees to lead 2 DEEP workshops within a year. Neighborhood Networks Are "Always Active"
Always Active  excercise and wellness sessions are at the heart of efforts to create Community Connector Neighborhood Networks. New sessions in Merced Extension and Miraloma Park have been added and will continue, thanks to support from Supervisor Yee and a new grant from the Department of Aging and Adults Services as one of the Community Services Pilots funded by new Dignity Funds. Get Active! So many other things going on - see our Neighborhood calendar online or learn more on the Cayuga Facebook page. Including their new batch of Free Little Library book boxes springing up around the neighborhood.

The Community Living Campaign (CLC) works to bring community, joy,  learning, and health to seniors and people with disabilities in San Francisco.  We seek to empower older people and adults with disabilities to come together, organize, and use their many skills and interests to reduce isolation and end economic and other barriers to aging in their own homes and neighborhoods.
