A homeless man found hope and a home when he moved into a Gardant-managed affordable assisted living community. 
 
In a recent story that ran on WCIA-TV, ciLiving storyteller Erin Valle highlighted the man's journey from living on park benches to living in an apartment at Bowman Estates of Danville, where he gets the help he needs.

New Tax Form for Seniors
The Internal Revenue Services has a new tax form available for seniors. The new form - Form 1040-SR - reportedly features larger type and a standard deduction chart that is easier to read and use.
 
Dining Program: A Success Story
Gardant's dining program was featured as a success story in the February 2020 issue of The Ali Group Magazine. The story highlights Gardant's commitment to serving residents of all incomes and the major role the dining program plays in offering residents care and dignity.

Assisted Living Residents Take Dream Flight
Thanks to the Ageless AviationDream Foundation, two residents of the Eagle Ridge affordable assisted living community that Gardant manages in Decatur, Illinois, took part this past fall in a special flight honoring military veterans. They were able to experience the thrill of riding in a WWII Stearman Biplane. The plane was used to train military aviators in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

Loneliness Among Adults
More than three in five adults in the United States report feeling lonely, notes CIGNA's recently released 2020 Loneliness Index. Feelings of isolation and loneliness can lead to an increased risk of death.
 
National Investment Center Highlights Illinois Program
Lana Beck of the National Investment Center (NIC) for Senior Housing and Care recently interviewed Rod Burkett, Gardant's CEO, and Greg Echols, Gardant's CFO. They discussed how a public/private partnership in Illinois is giving older adults more access to affordable assisted living options.

An AARP report indicates that nearly 30% of adults 50+ years of age are using smartphones to manage and receive medical care.
 
40+ Gardant-Managed Communities to be Recognized
The American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living has announced that more than 40 Gardant-managed assisted living and memory care communities will be recognized in March for participating in the association's Quality Initiative Program. 
 
The national program is designed to recognize communities that show a commitment to quality and improving the lives of residents.

"Gray New Deal"
Congressman Anthony Brindisi of New York is introducing a plan he is calling the "Gray New Deal." The report posted on Feb. 3 on FOX 40 says the plan is designed to assist older adults with healthcare costs and other expenses.
 
Congressional Visit
U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, who serves Illinois' 17th Congressional District, visited the Heritage Woods of Sterling affordable assisted living community on Jan. 17. 
 
The community is certified to operate through the Illinois Supportive Living program and features 76 studio and one-bedroom apartments for older adults who need some help to maintain their independence.
