Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA)
Digital Dome Program
Partners With
Santa Fe Independent Film Festival (SFIFF)
To Provide 360 Spherical Film Programming

Santa Fe, June 29, 2018

For the 10th Annual Santa Fe Independent Film Festival, October 17, 2018 - October 21, 2018, the festival is expanding their programming to include spherical film submissions that will be screened at IAIA's state-of-the-art-Digital-Dome on the IAIA Campus, 83 Avan Nu Po Road, on the South Side of Santa Fe, minutes from the Community College. Click here for map and directions.

This new addition to the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival's diverse programming will not only allow SFIFF to screen the most cutting edge spherical films, but also invite the audience to experience the incredible 360° experience of the IAIA Digital Dome. IAIA students have been working in, and creating content for, the Digital Dome since it opened in 2010.

The IAIA Digital Dome is a unique asset of the college, being the world's only fully articulating dome. It rotates from 0° to 90°, and can be positioned at the ceiling or floor, offering multiple viewing experiences. The space offers a combination of black box, planetarium, interactive performance space, Digital Full Dome, and an immersive laboratory -- with five WQXGA (2560x1600 Resolution) projectors that deliver a 4k dome projection and a spatialized ambisonic 24.4 professional Genelec immersive sound system. The Dome is a space for new applications of creative expression, scientific and technical exploration, film, and the merging of art and technology.

Jacques Paisner , Executive Director of the SFIFF, commented: "This is an exciting way to expand our ongoing partnership with IAIA. Creativity in the motion picture arts is paramount at the SFIFF, and remaining on the cutting-edge of the medium with the inclusion of IAIA's Digital Dome is a very natural progression for the festival."

Mats Reiniusson, Assistant Professor & Dome Manager observed: "This is a great new collaboration! It makes total sense that the IAIA Digital Dome should be part of the SFIFF - due to both organizations being located in Santa Fe. IAIA has a state-of-the-art immersive film theater, and immersive 360 film is the new upcoming format for film festivals on the frontline. SFIFF will now have immersive spherical film as part of their programming."
