Join Dean Barbara Crow for skating in Market Square and a warm beverage from Sipps from 4:00-6:00 pm on March 4, 2020.  

Walk to market square from Dunning Hall main entrance at 4:00 pm and skate with the Dean for a wellness activity and then warm up afterwards with a SIPPS beverage and some words about our Strategic Plan initiatives.  
ascJoin our Arts and Science Communicators Working Group

This working group meets monthly to bring together staff in Arts and Science who have responsibilities related to marketing, communications, and/or recruitment. 

It is open to administrative assistants, event and communications coordinators, content writers, designers, web managers, etc.  The goals of this working group include message cohesion, cross-promotion of activities, collaboration of efforts, and sharing of resources and successes.  We also provide some further training opportunities through this group. 

The next meeting will be Thursday, February 27, from 11:00am - 12:00am in the Faculty Office.

This is an open invitation to everyone in the Queen's and broader community to join us for a series of talks associated with Global Development Studies' Principal's Dream Course on Indigenous Human Ecology in the winter term of 2020.
 
The  conversational talks  will feature Global Development Studies Instructor Ian Fanning (Algonquin) speaking with invited guests on topics that explore Indigenous solidarity in various forms, why we need it at Queen's and in the wider community, and how we can support Indigenous resistance and resurgence.

Queen's University Library is offering an information series to introduce researchers to the services and expertise that support them throughout the life of their research and in their teaching. The series will overview the supports provided by the Open Scholarship Services division, including research data management, open access publishing, copyright and access to statistical, government and GIS information.

Sessions will be held from February to April, 12:30-1:30 pm 
Refreshments will be provided.

artArt of Research Photo Contest

The 2020 Art of Research photo contest is an opportunity for Queen's faculty, students, staff, and alumni to showcase their research, scholarly, and artistic work. The competition is aimed at providing a creative and accessible method of sharing and celebrating the ground-breaking research being done by current and past Queen's community members. 

Photos from the contest are highlighted across university research collateral (e.g. Brochures, websites), advertisements, campaigns and featured in our travelling, pop-up photo exhibit.

Submissions will be accepted until March 12, 2020.

seminarCollaborative Inquiry Seminars - Call for Proposals (Reminder)

As part of the Faculty's Strategic Plan  to promote a collaborative curriculum, we invite faculty members from across departments to submit proposals for a team-taught first year seminar course.
 
These collaborative inquiry courses will provide students with the opportunity to investigate an authentic problem or question from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.

The Fireplace Series continues in 2020! Join professors Laila Haidarali (Departments of Gender Studies & History) and Martin Hand (Department of Sociology) as they discuss how we look at our ourselves, how we look at others, and how we perform ourselves for visual consumption online in  Looking Online on  February 14.

Professors Haidarali and Hand aim to have an open-ended discussion about how cultures of beauty and the performance of self online and offline, and in particular how racial and gender identities are experienced, constructed, and deconstructed through various acts of looking, in an attempt to make links between the pre-digital and digital ages.

The event will take place in the Fireplace Reading Room in Stauffer Library. Tea will be served at 9:45am.

spacesTransform Our Spaces Fund (Reminder)

The Dean has launched a one-million dollar fund to provide financial assistance to initiate renovations to create accessible and inspiring facilities and infrastructure to catalyze learning, discovery, collaboration and community. 

Funding is awarded on a competitive basis and priority is given to submissions demonstrating strong alignment with the Faculty's strategic priorities of Strengthening our Research Prominence, Enriching the Student Experience, and Supporting our People.

The deadline for applications is March 1, 2020 . The fund is open to anyone who wants to submit an idea to transform our spaces.

Please plan to work with your DSC's about what they are planning for your tabletop displays - this is when your blue board displays can be updated and used along with other interesting artifacts. We will bring some of the Major Maps for you to hand out at the event.

If you are hosting your own info sessions after Major's Night,  let us know and we'll be sure to include them in our student newsletters and on our website.

Queen's Arts and Science has partnered with the Kingston Economic Development Corporation to match soon-to-be graduating undergraduate arts and humanities students with local employers to jump-start their career in May. The program consists of a one-year paid career apprenticeship in Kingston, along with mentorship and networking opportunities to ensure their success long-term. This is an amazing opportunity for your students to stay in Kingston and start working right after graduation. Start spreading the word to your students if they are in the creative arts, humanities, or social sciences.
