What's Happening Now...
Road, Sidewalk and Pathway Construction  
 
The City of Novi prides itself on maintaining open lines of communication and keeping community members apprised of the latest in road and  non-motorized construction projects. 

The following information is intended to provide an overview of current projects.

Please note: All completion dates are merely estimates. Projects could extend beyond those dates due to unforeseen issues with the project and inclement weather.
Oakland County Transportation  Updates


The intersection is now fully open . Over the coming weeks, motorists may expect some minor lane closures to correct certain punch list items of work.
Estimated completion date: Road is open
RCOC is having a contractor finish the balance of concrete panel work remaining from the 2018 project which concentrated on the intersection of 12 Mile and Meadowbrook Road. The work is expected to begin some time in early or mid-October.
Estimated completion date: November 15, 2019

RCOC will be closing Haggerty Road on Sept. 30. Advanced warning signs and detour signs will be placed a week prior to closing, announcing the closure. The project calls for  replacing the existing culverts at two Seeley Drain crossings of Haggerty Road, north of 13 Mile Road and MacKenzie Drive. While under construction, Haggerty Road will be closed at the culvert locations.

City of Novi Projects


All of the driveways on Guilford Road have been poured and should be reopened in the coming days. The second side of Bennington in Mystic Forest has been poured and await cure prior to reopening at some point next week. This is the last street segment for this year's concrete program.

The base course of asphalt is down on Warrington Court and Warrington Drive. Stone base and edge drain are now complete on the first side of Lynwood Drive. They are currently pouring back the curb repairs on the first side of Lynwood as well. Early to mid-next week, the paving contractor should be placing the first course of new asphalt. Crews may also head to Edinborough Lane and Inverness Court will have work done once the streets in Greenwood Oaks are complete.

The contractor will be pouring new concrete curbing along the north side of the Industrial spur road this week. The large, four-sided box culvert was placed and crews will start the process of backfilling the area. Over the next couple weeks, the contractor will concentrate on the remaining cuts and fills along the new Crescent Boulevard at Grand River Avenue as well as beginning the removals and replacements of the existing concrete at the intersection of Novi Road and Crescent Boulevard.

The contractor has closed Flint Street (gravel portion), from Grand River to Novi Road. A bulk of the earthwork and grading will take place over the next few weeks. New power poles and lines have been installed and the power has been switched over. DTE is now coordinating the relocation of the other franchise utilities to the new poles. The contractor is also nearly complete with underground detention system.

The contractor has completed the milling of the existing concrete, repaired the milled concrete joints and paved new asphalt over two-thirds of Cabot and Lewis drives. It is expected the final one-third will receive the base course of asphalt late this week or early next week. For Trans-X Drive, the first course of asphalt has been placed on the entire roadway. Once existing curb replacements are complete, the paving contractor will place the final lift of asphalt. Work on Donelson is schedule to begin in a couple weeks.

The contractor has several shafts constructed for proposed sanitary manholes along Nine Mile which has choked the roadway down to one lane in several areas. Area residents and motorists need to use caution when driving in these areas. Construction of the storm sewer network at Nine Mile and Garfield Roads is now complete. Open cut sections, west of Garfield, are about halfway complete.
Estimated completion date: January 27, 2020

The Meadowbrook Road bridge is now closed. They have removed the existing concrete bridge approaches and expect to have them replaced by the end of the week. The next stage will be to replace several sidewalk segments along the bridge and apply the epoxy coating on the bridge deck. This work takes approximately three weeks. Once complete, the contractor will reopen the Meadowbrook Road bridge and close the Cranbrooke Drive bridge for similar work.
Estimated completion date: October 19, 2019

The contractor has completed paving and striping of the southbound Haggerty Road right turn lane. The 14 Mile and Haggerty intersection was fully reopened to traffic on August 23. Crews will also be completing the installation of new sidewalks, pedestrian push buttons and traffic signal conduits at the Beck Road/Pontiac Trail intersection. After this work is complete, we will have to wait nearly 25 weeks on the delivery of the mast arms and poles.

In August 2012, Novi citizens overwhelmingly passed a road millage allowing for more than $5 million to be used in annual road and pathway investments. Funds will be used to maintain and improve neighborhood (subdivision/side streets) and major municipal roadways (mile roads, Beck Road, etc.), and to make sidewalk and pathway connections.
