Annual One Health Day celebrations

One Health Day is officially recognized on Tuesday, November 3. See a list of global and virtual activities on the One Health Commission events page. The goal of One Health Day is to build the cultural will necessary for change in how planetary health challenges are assessed and addressed. One Health Day brings global attention to the need for One Health interactions and allows the world to see them in action.

Global One Health Day 2020 Conference

The conference hosted November 5-7 features renowned leaders and researchers from academic and governmental institutions including Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and U.S. Department of Food and Drug Administration.

New Memorandum of Understanding signed with the University of Global Health Equity

Through the Global One Health initiative (GOHi), The Ohio State University successfully established a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in Rwanda. This institutional commitment and formal partnership is the result of years of discussion since the UGHE inception when GOHi served an advisory role for the UGHE One Health focus.

Memorandum of Understanding renewal with the Federal University of Paraná

The Ohio State University has had a long institutional relationship with the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) in Brazil dating back to 1992. The original MOU between Ohio State and UFPR was signed that year, and subsequent renewal agreements have since been established to codify various collaborative activities. The 2014 renewal MOU formalized academic interactions and research collaborations between UFPR and multiple Ohio State units: The College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Spanish and Portuguese, the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, in particular The Ohio Program, and Global One Health initiative.

Staff professional development and academic accomplishments

GOHi’s regional staff in Ethiopia have completed their studies with support from GOHi. Achenef Kidane, MD, and Oumer Berta completed their Master of Science in clinical trials at the Addis Ababa University. Leuel Lisanwork, MD, graduated with a Master of Public Health from Addis Ababa University’s Medical and Business College.
