Updates from the Principal
COVID Updates
In terms of our weekly testing, we had zero positive results and two tests that were listed as “indeterminate” because results could not be interpreted. We are looking into adding Monday testing to help our student-athletes receive more timely test results—we will provide information on that moving forward.
Hybrid Cohort Updates
As the weather warms up and we move forward with vaccines and positivity rates drop, we have received many requests for cohort changes and for G4 requests for students to be on campus four days a week. We understand this desire and want to accommodate as many requests as possible, but we are still limited by restrictions from County Health that we must follow.
We are going to move forward with accommodating more students, but we hope that everyone understands this turns into a numbers issue. With the distancing rules we have to follow to stay open, we can only have 15 students in a classroom. The idea of using the Garaventa Center to hold excess students is something we are exploring, but even then we can’t just cram a hundred or so students in that space and provide a level of safety that is needed, along with following those distance restrictions. We are looking at hiring a full-time person to monitor every period in the Garaventa and are running numbers to see how many students we could accommodate by using that space for “excess” students, and will create an equitable “rotation” so that as many students can get into a classroom as possible. To do this we have to run class size numbers for every class, every period, at every grade level, and then do the same with the De La Salle students who will be in our classes as well. This is time-intensive, especially in the midst of the scheduling season for next year, our admissions cycle, etc.
We are working on these numbers and hope to bring more students on campus starting March 15th. This will also allow us to gauge the impact and make modifications for post-Easter Break. As students move into our G4 we do expect them to be tested weekly. This added layer of protection is essential in helping create a safe campus, and we will continue to offer weekly testing so that students can take advantage of it.
Also be aware that we will be sending out surveys about our hybrid environment. We want to provide the best environment we possibly can and want input from students, faculty, and our families—look for those surveys in the coming weeks.

Weekly COVID Testing on-campus
The next upcoming test date is Wed. March 10 and is for students and employees only. Family members will not be allowed to schedule an appointment because it's a traditional school day, not a Flex Day. Appointments are required.

Schedule Reminders
We want to remind families that there are no Flex Days this week or next week. The upcoming two weeks each have classes meeting Monday-Thursday with Fridays being either a school holiday or Faculty/Staff professional development day.
Also, the last two school days before Spring Break will be distance learning only. No students will come to campus on Monday, March 29 or Tuesday, March 30. This is to ensure that one cohort does not receive more on-campus time than another. Spring Break begins on Wednesday, March 31 with classes resuming Monday, April 12.

Deans and Attendance
We know that traveling is often a necessity and it is also a family decision. However, we do ask for families to partner with us to lessen the possibility of spreading the virus to campus. Effective immediately, there are currently no restrictions to return to campus for simply traveling out of the Bay Area (or the State or otherwise) as long as our students and families follow all Contra Costa County health and safety guidelines (wearing a mask, social distancing, etc.).
However, if a family has been out of town and has an interaction that would be defined as a close contact (within 6-feet for 15 minutes or longer), we ask that you/your daughter participate in a week of virtual learning at home upon return. Additionally, as with any close contact, we encourage you and your daughter to get a COVID test. Please be upfront with any travel arrangements and connect with Malisa Meemari or Caitlin Main if you have any questions or concerns about you/your daughter’s return to campus after travel.

Yearbook Help
Yearbook needs your help collecting images of our incredible students! Please send us photos of students doing the following:
- Sports (Carondelet or Club)
- Working or volunteering
- School at home
- Siblings together attending Carondelet and/or De La Salle
The submission deadline is March 15.

Prom Update
Through this year, Carondelet and De La Salle’s goal has been to preserve a special celebration for the Junior Class that meets current health and safety guidelines. Unfortunately, due to the restrictions in place, the Junior Prom on March 13 cannot proceed as planned.
Now, we are shifting focus to hopefully provide a celebratory experience for our Juniors in the form of a fun, casual event. Currently, we are targeting Friday, March 26. We will be sending out more information, including the link to buy tickets, in the next few weeks–– so please, save the date. For any questions, please reach out to Ms. Lettire

Black Excellence
Thank you to the Black Student Union for sharing your truth and experiences with us during the “Reflections on Black Excellence” assembly this week. Black History Month might be over, but we're still sharing and celebrating Black stories. BSU students hope you'll follow the BSU’s Instagram page, learn about Black history, and commit to anti-racism work.

Our first two DREAM workshops were a success. We gathered important data through everyone's reflection process and will be analyzing over the coming months. Student's reflections and feedback are important steps in creating and sustaining a culture of caring and empathy here on campus. If you did not participate but want to share your experience, email Mrs. Reinwald and include DREAM in the subject line.

This year's inventive take on our annual fundraiser was a success. Over 750 orders were picked up yesterday. Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and made this fundraiser possible. Funds raised from this feast will go toward funding various activities that support students and staff throughout the year.

Carondelet Giving Day - March 16 |

On behalf of everyone at Carondelet, I congratulate the De La Salle Board of Trustees and the entire community on the appointment of David Holquin as their incoming president. On July 1, David will assume school leadership from Mark DeMarco '78, who announced his retirement after 14 years of dedicated service. We extend sincere gratitude to Mark for many years of partnership and look forward to collaborating in our educational mission with David and the rest of the DLS faculty and staff in the years ahead.

College & Career Updates
Each week, your College & Career counselors will share updates for students and families about upcoming opportunities for your road to college. In this week's edition, here are some of the highlights:

Juniors: College and Career will be having our annual College Kickstart program on June 1-4, 2021. During this application bootcamp, students will write the first draft of their college essay, begin their Common Application, create their activities list, narrow their college list, and more. It’s a week of hard work that reaps great rewards. Registration details will be emailed in the upcoming weeks.
Juniors: Mark your calendars! College Preview Night will be held via Zoom on Wed., April 21 at 6:30 PM. Hear from college admissions representatives about their different admissions processes, how admissions decisions are made, and review two sample applications as if you are part of an admissions committee. Details will be emailed to families closer to the date.
Freshmen: This is a reminder to complete your Course Advising Form and schedule a Zoom course advising meeting with your College Counselor before March 10.

Season Updates
According to the CDPH, all in-season athletes and coaches must submit a negative COVID test, once every 14 days for purple tier sports (tennis, golf, swim, and dive) and once weekly for red tier sports (softball and lacrosse). High contact sports must test 24 hrs from each competition.
Dates are subject to change. 3/10 & 3/17 are only open to CHS students, faculty, staff, and coaches, not open to families.
