 McClelland & Stewart has acquired, in a 5-way auction, Canadian rights to two books of fiction by Journey Prize winner Shashi Bhat. The first, THE MOST PRECIOUS SUBSTANCE ON EARTH, is a darkly comic novel that, beginning in the mid-1990s, follows a young woman's tumultuous journey from high school student to high school teacher, as she learns uncomfortable truths about how women are conditioned to make themselves silent. World English rights to Hannah Mary McKinnon's untitled novel, in which a man with amnesia finds his way back to his hometown only to discover he's suspected of killing his girlfriend, to Emily Ohanjanians at Mira, in a two-book deal. Sold by Carolyn Forde.

 Cody Caetano is a writer with work in Beatroute, PRISM International, Bad Nudes, Hart House Review, and elsewhere. His debut chapbook, Pleasure Dome Poems, was released via Knife/Fork/Book in 2019, which Billy-Ray Belcourt described as "slippery and agile and revisionist and campy and ethical and ultra contemporary." In 2019, Cody graduated with an MA in English in the field of Creative Writing from the University of Toronto, where he wrote a memoir under the mentorship of Stó:lō writer Lee Maracle, entitled HALF-BADS IN WHITE REGALIA.

 Christina Crook's first book, The Joy of Missing Out: Finding Balance in a Wired World, helped pioneer the field of digital well-being and established her as a leading voice on technology and human flourishing.  A longtime book editor at Penguin Random House Canada and now Page Two, Amanda Lewis's first book, Tracking Giants (Greystone Books, Fall 2021), is a travelogue/memoir about searching for the Champion trees of British Columbia and revealing the best and biggest parts of ourselves in the process. Her novel follows a young artist named Jane as she navigates her own understanding of the isolation, depression and the limits of connection through technology. Her most important relationships--that with another artist named Kitty and with a discredited therapist named Anna--begin to deteriorate as Jane's personal devastation becomes prevalent. This grief translates to a desire to create outside her own medium but maybe more so outside the repetition of her own memories. The book follows Jane and Kitty's respective artistic practices as they collaborate to show their work at a competition in England.

 Susan Meyers is an Associate Professor, English Director, Creative Writing Program at Seattle University. Meyers has published in Calyx, Dogwood, Oregon Humanities Journal, Wilderness House Literary Review, Rosebud Literary Magazine, The Minnesota Review, WomenArts Quarterly Journal, Gender and Education, and Community Literacy Journal. Her wonderful debut novel MIDNIGHT TIGHTROPE, which is loosely based on her own Grandmother's life in the circus in the early part of the 20th century will be available for consideration soon.  Monique Monnier-Jones grew up in a tiny town along Bayou Lafourche and is a graduate of Nicholls State University with degrees in English and Biology. When not tapping away at her keyboard, she can be found mountain biking, gardening, tending her small farm and wandering the woods. She lives with her husband, children and a menagerie of rescued animals in the middle of the swamp in South Louisiana. Her debut Southern

 Yasin Osman is an award-winning Toronto-based photographer and visual storyteller who specializes in capturing evocative images of the living world. In 2017, Osman traveled to Somalia to collaborate with #LoveArmy, a humanitarian organization founded by Jerome Jarre, Casey Neistat, Ben Stiller & Chaka. During his time there he collaborated with world renowned artist JR, and Osman's photos were pasted onto multiple water trucks all over the country. Additionally, he has worked with UNICEF, MacLeans Magazine and VICE. Through social media platforms Instagram & 500px Osman has accumulated over 200,000 followers, and told powerful stories of marginalization, culture and religion.  Andrew F. Sullivan is from Oshawa, Ontario. He is the author of the novel Waste (Dzanc Books), named a Best Book of the Year by The Globe & Mail, The Walrus and CBC Books in 2016. His short story collection All We Want is Everything (ARP Books) was shortlisted for the ReLit Award for Short Fiction and named a Best Book of the Year by The Globe & Mail in 2013. Sullivan's fiction has been repeatedly shortlisted for the National Magazine Awards and his work has appeared in Hazlitt, The Globe & Mail, The New Quarterly, and other publications.  Katherine F. Swann lives in Atlanta with her husband, two sons, and dog Ollie. She graduated from Washington and Lee University and then obtained a master's degree from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. When she's not working, reading, writing, or driving kids around, she's drinking wine and binge-watching Mindhunter or The Crown. Katherine writes commercial women's fiction.  Meredith Vuchnich is an award-winning film and TV screenwriter. She co-wrote the feature film screenplay Beans, an Indigenous coming-of-age story set during the 1990 Oka Crisis, with the film's director Tracey Deer. They won the TIFF-CBC Films Screenwriter Award for the screenplay. Beans will be released theatrically in the fall of 2020.
In TV, Meredith has written and produced for one-hour dramas (Remedy, Carter, ReGenesis, Wild Roses, Godiva's), half-hour dramedy and developed original dramatic series. She was nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Writer in a Dramatic Series for ReGenesis in 2008.
A writer as well as a busy mom, Meredith had two consecutive concussions and managed post-concussive syndrome for four years. She is currently working on a novel entitled Concussion Mom, inspired by her own experiences.
She has a M.A in Theatre from Northwestern University and graduated from the competitive and life-changing Canadian Film Centre TV Writing Programme. She lives in Toronto with her husband and three children. For kicks, she writes and performs music as part of the pop-folk duo, The Neighbourlys.
