Parents and Guardians,
We had a great start to AP testing last week. Overall we gave 958 exams! Both students and staff worked hard, were flexible, and truly did an awesome job. Although one week of exams is now complete, we continue with AP testing over the next five days.
I also want to brag on your students for doing a great job with their EOC testing last week. I know it can be a stressful and difficult time for students and teachers, but they have done a fantastic job preparing throughout the year.
A special “Thank You” goes out to our LHS PTSO for doing so much for Teacher Appreciation Week. Last week, Casey Stratmeyer and Kari Aguilar organized and set up events for our staff each day. It was truly a blessing and we want to thank everyone who participated through giving their time or resources.
I am sure each of you is already aware that I have resigned my position as LHS Principal at the end of this year. Many of you have shared very encouraging responses over the weekend and I want to thank you for that. If you missed that communication on Friday, I have included it HERE and hope that you will read my letter to our parents and community.
With graduation less than three weeks away, there are lots of activities going on at LHS. Please take a few minutes to read through the email below for important upcoming events and dates. We have had some amazing student performances including Lacrosse and Robotics we are excited to share too.
Sincerely,
Chris Mayfield
Principal

Medication Pickup
If your child has medicine at school, please make sure your child has exactly enough medicine to finish the school year. You are responsible for picking up any extra medicine as the school district has a policy against sending medicines home with students. At the end of this school year, any remaining medicines, including inhalers, will be thrown out. The school cannot store these for you during the summer.
If your student is not feeling well, please keep them at home and email your child’s assistant principal. Please also keep them home, contact the nurse, and their assistant principal if your student receives a lab positive COVID test.

LJVA AP Studio Art Exhibition
The Lovejoy Visual Arts program is pleased to announce the opening of the 14th annual LJVA AP Studio Art exhibition on May 14th from 5-9! We cannot wait to share this wonderfully diverse and thoughtful collection of work with our family and friends. The range of approaches, processes, intention, and vision behind these 11 artists' work is a clear testament to the incredible imprint that they have made on the LJVA legacy.
Please join us Saturday, May 14th from 5-9pm for an evening celebrating these artists and their work while gaining insight into their process and ideatio. At the exhibition you will be able to and have the opportunity to purchase available work from the artists and join in charity auction Benefiting the Vogel Alcove; a non-profit organization on a mission to help young children overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness. The Lovejoy Visual Art program believes fully in using our gifts to give back to our larger community and would love for you to join us in this yearly tradition.

Robotics
Seven of our ten LHS Robotics Teams (LHS = 1082) went to the VEX World Championship and did amazing! We capped off our season with every team winning some matches, fighting until the end and giving it every ounce of effort they had. Some nearly pulled all-nighters before the final day making repairs, programming, and build changes to ensure their robot performed at its peak ability.
| |
The following teams achieved the following ranks in their respective divisions:
1082C - 40th
1082K - 19th - Made it to the elimination round playoffs
1082R - 67th
1082X - 40th - Made it to the elimination round playoffs
1082Y - 43rd
Keep in mind these teams represent a little less than 4% of the world's 22,000 teams. To make it to this point and still rank in the top half of teams (Divisions had 80+ teams) is an incredible feat!
In addition to the above results, we had two teams end up as Division Quarterfinalists!
1082Z was ranked 15th after qualifications and they won their first playoff match and then ended as quarterfinalists! Amazing job to such a young team!

1082E was ranked 17th after qualifications and they won their first playoff match and then ended as quarterfinalists! Fantastic job by this group of hardworking engineers.
Every student in attendance did a phenomenal job and we want to give a huge "Thank You!" to the entire Lovejoy Community for your support and especially to the parents. You are the foundation to our successful program and we can't wait to have another successful season next year!
