December 18, 2020

Dear Families and Staff,

Before we embark on winter break, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for all of your efforts toward keeping our students at the focus of our daily work. I know this year has required far more effort, but I am proud of our families, staff, and students for what we have accomplished together. We made it in-person to December 18! Please view this short (less than one minute) video message as you start your winter break:

Additionally, there are a few important items and reminders to share:

Quarantine Guidance
Cook County Department of Public Health and IL Department of Public Health are expected to release updated guidance within the next few days in response to the recent CDC guidance revision.  Once there is a formal update, the District will send communication to clarify length of quarantine periods.

January 2021 Schedule Following Winter Break

The post-winter break schedule is as follows:
  • Monday, January 4 - Remote Planning Day (non-student attendance day)
  • Tuesday, January 5 - Friday, January 8 - K-8 Remote Learning
  • Monday, January 11 - AM Remote Learning (AM/PM pods will merge), PM Teacher In-Service (non-student attendance)
  • Tuesday, January 12 - Friday, January 15 - Remote Learning
  • Monday, January 18 - NO SCHOOL (MLK Day)
  • Tuesday, January 19 - Return to Hybrid In-Person model
The best way to return to campus safely after break is to have families and staff limit exposure to others and return home no later than January 3 in an effort to prevent the return of the virus on our campuses.  The 2-week remote learning transition plan is intended to accommodate those who travel or become close contacts.  This should not be viewed as a window of time to extend vacations; however, if you do extend travel, there will not be capacity in our remote classrooms for temporary enrollment due to travel-based quarantine.  Parents will be responsible for supporting student learning while away on travel and any related quarantine Teachers have limited ability to assist students prior to and returning from vacations given the demands of the current context.

Please note, all buildings will be closed during the break and we will be unable to grant access; there will be no exceptions provided as deep cleaning will occur during this time.

Crisis Go Adherence Resumes Districtwide Starting January 5, 2021
We are asking all families and staff to continue to complete Crisis Go during our remote learning schedule in January. Note that some of the questions may be different given the context of this time period. It is imperative that our school community participates so we can safely resume in-person learning on campus to the best of our ability on January 19, 2021.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season. May we all have better days ahead in 2021!

Sincerely,

Dr. Trisha Kocanda
Superintendent
