And, welcome to the Third Sunday in Lent.

The texts for the day may be accessed here:

We move back to a form of Rite II which blends sections of Enriching our Worship with Eucharistic Prayer B. (Back to Rite 1 next Sunday) Once again we begin the day with confession - something missing during the season of incarnation and light -and then move quickly to our readings. Speaking of which...
In Exodus we get the third of God's covenants with the people, this time in the form of the familiar - if too often ignored - ten commandments. Still, the covenant flows from the idea that because God loves us, we should imitate that love by observing these commandments, not if we observe, then God will love us... Paul offers a brief diatribe to the Corinthians concerning God's wisdom over against our preferences and expectations and in John's Gospel, Jesus tosses the moneychangers out of the Temple, a story John uses to open Jesus public ministry, not the catalyst for the ending of it. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.... The Rev. Dr. John Greenhow is our preacher.

Our readers for Sunday are Patrick Herlihy (Exodus) and Cheryl Thompson (Corinthians), and our prayer leader is TBD, since Barbara is away on retreat..
The next lecture in our adult formation series - which will focus on the idea of 'inclusiveness' in Luke-Acts - will begin after the service.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
From the Rector:

Easter and Holy Week Schedule

As we move through the 2nd Week of Lent, it is not too early to be thinking about Easter. A brief look at the tentative schedule for that week:

Passion Sunday, March 28: A virtual service with the traditional dramatic reading of the passion text as presented by Mark.

Maundy Thursday, April 1: A virtual evening service at 7 from the brick church, with the traditional removal of adornments and other items.

Good Friday, April 2: Virtual observances at noon from the brick church. A musical tenebrae-style service at 7 PM (which we will invite our sister parishes to attend).

Easter Vigil, April 3: A work in progress as a joint virtual experience. We are exploring the possibility of creating a joint online worship service with the other Epsicopal parishes in the region. Stay tuned. The Cathedral will also be live-streaming a vigil and that may be our option.

Easter Sunday, April 4: Virtual worship at 10AM. There are also plans underway for our traditional Easter Egg hunt to take place on campus at 1 PM. Erryn Fleming will be posting details. families will be able to hunt for eggs in an assigned area and then families will be invited to place flowers in the cross that will be placed near the front door to the brick church. Again be watching for details.

Special Notice: The vestry will be taking up the possibility of a gradual re-gathering, perhaps as early as Easter Sunday, depending upon conditions at that time, guidelines from the State, County and the Diocese, and our own ability to continue to connect all parishioners - in-person and virtual - together for worship. It has to work for all of us. More news will be forthcoming after the vestry meets in March.  Ken+
Lent Madness is Back!!!!
The first matchup is less than a week away. (The whole bracket can be viewed by clicking on the link below and personally, I am glad to see that Evagrius the Solitary and Isidora the Simple will get their moments to shine).

Lent Madness is a great discipline for this season. For starters, it is a lot of fun (Unless you gave up fun for Lent) It is also a painless way to learn about some of the lesser known men and women who lived faithful lives and - as we pray every Wednesday at our healing service - were the 'chosen vessels of your grace, and the lights of world in their generations."

Here's the link to the bracket...

Lenten Evensong

On Sunday evenings in Lent, at 6 PM, we will be offering an Evensong as part of our Lenten discipline. Lent is a season of introspection and contemplation, calling us into a deeper relationship with God and each other and the whale of creation. Evensong is a different way of experiencing Lent. Music carries such power and is able to unlock thoughts and feelings, memories and dreams, that might otherwise not be summoned. It is a vehicle through which the Spirit is able to surprise us, evoking reaction. With that in mind, we hope that you will make the time to join us in this experience.

A Lenten message from Pope Francis

Do you want to fast this Lent?
Fast from hurting words, and say kind words.
Fast from sadness, and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from anger, and be filled with patience.
Fast from pessimism, and be filled with hope.
Fast from worries, and have trust in God.
Fast from complaints, and contemplate simplicity.
Fast from pressures, and be prayerful.
Fast from bitterness, and fill you heart with joy.
Fast from selfishness, and be compassionate to others.
Fast from grudges, and be reconciled.
Fast from words, and be silent, so you can listen.
Amen.
Trivia Night TONIGHT

We will once again test our knowledge of the obscure and inconsequential on Friday evening, March 5 at 7 PM. This month's contest is entitled "Marching in Place" which would seem to indicate that the quiz might have something vaguely to do with the advent of spring and baseball and the like, but you'll just have to turn out to see what the QM throws your way.

As always, the game room will open at 6:40 so you have time to register your team or individual 'trivia' name and do some last minute posturing and/or trash talking with your opponents.

Here is the link for our contest:

The Book of Revelation Study

Thank you to those who participated in the first two studies the Book of Revelation.

Our remaining sessions will include more participation and discussion. Do not worry if you missed a session. You will have no problem catching up.

For our next session, Wednesday, March 10 at 6:30 PM, please read chapters 2 - 5. You may use the following questions to guide your study.

  1. Consider the images in chapters 4 and 5 and what they might have meant in John's day. Especially consider the image of "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" in 5:5-7. Consider also the worship scenes in chapters 4 and 5. What meaning, if any, do you find in them?

Our remaining March sessions on the Revelation study are scheduled for Wednesdays at 6:30 PM. Our corrected readings for these sessions are tentatively planned as follows:

3/10: 4:1 - 8.1
3/17: 8:2 - 11:18
3/24: 11:19 - 13:18
3/31: 14:1 - 16:21
4/7: 17:1 - 19:10
4/14: 19:11 - 22:21

Please join us!

All Saints Cooks TOMORROW

There was an issue with the recipe doc so we're just putting the whole text in (this one time)

Jeff’s Fresh Clams with Red Sauce over Linguini
If you like clams, you’ll love this Italian favorite from New England. We’d dig our own clams on Cape Cod but today the seafood counter at the grocery store carries bags of small hard-shell clams. Usually they are 25 count, I like to use two bags to serve 4, 1 bag for two people.
Ingredients:
2 bags hard-shell clams (approximately 50 ct.)
1 lb. Linguini Pasta
2 cans (15 oz) Red Clam Sauce (I like to use Bumble Bee’s Toscan style but any will do)
2 cans (6.5 oz) chopped clams drained (Bumble Bee makes chopped and minced…use chopped)
1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 tbs. minced shallots
1 tbs dried oregano
½ stick of butter
2 tbs. good olive oil
Grated parmesan cheese
Italian parsley for finishing
1 loaf garlic bread
1 bottle Italian red wine

Directions:
Preheat oven and follow directions for baking garlic bread.
Remove clams from fridge, rinse well and place in large bowl cold water until ready to use.
In large skillet (12 in) add butter, 1 tbs. of olive oil, minced shallots and minced garlic on low heart until butter is melted. Meanwhile heat pot of water on stove for linguini. Add clams to melted butter and garlic. As you remove clams from bowl, make sure they are closed. Discard any clam that is open! Cover and simmer until most of the clams are open. Add linguini to boiling water and cook. Put garlic bread in oven. After clams are open add red clam sauce, chopped clams, dried oregano and a dash or so of red wine (optional).  Cover, stir occasionally and let simmer for approx. 12-15 minutes. If clam sauce is too watery for ones’ liking, stir in a spoonful or two of tomato paste. When pasta is cooked (approx. 9 minutes) drain, return to pot and stir in rest of olive oil to pasta. Remove garlic bread from oven, cut, keep warm in foil.
When clam sauce is hot and all clams are cooked (if some clams still don’t open, don’t worry just toss. There’s always one or two stubborn ones) place linguini in bowl, use large spoon and spread clams and red sauce, on top. Finish with parmesan cheese and parsley. Enjoy with a glass of red wine and slice of garlic bread to soak up the sauce. Bon appetite!

On March 13th, Father Ken+ will share his unique “experimental” chili. (You’ve got to be there to discover why it’s “experimental”.) This show will "air" on Zoom at 10:00 AM on the respective days.

Project Spudnik, A Keep Maryland Beautiful and Master Gardener Community Project

The 2021 Project Spudnik garden season has begun. Don't worry if you missed the Feb 21 planning session. Work sessions at the garden will be on Sundays, March 14 and 21. On the 14th from 2 - 3:30 PM, we will clean up the garden and move the Children's Garden due to water issues. On the 21st starting at 2 PM, we'll have a big work day to sanitize the grow bags, make container soil, fill bags, plant potatoes and other early cool weather vegetables, purge the water lines and set up irrigation system. Because we will be outside, up to 25 people can work those days, but must still be physically distanced from others and wear masks. Family groups can work together. Questions? Call Sherrill at 410-286-7586 or Ryan at 443-771-7047
