Dear Residents -
Two weeks from today, we will welcome in 2021. When I think of all that we have gone through this past year, I am happy to see it come to an end and am amazed at how we persevered through it all. May 2021 be the light we all hope, want and need it to be.
For the 150 or so people who ran last week’s Santa Clause 5K at Veteran’s Park, myself included, I cannot thank the staff at the Orangetown Parks and Recreation Department enough. As a runner that has been unable to participate in an “in-person” race since March 8th, I was absolutely thrilled to be back in a corral and safely lining up with other runners. Job well done – by staff and runners alike!
As you probably know by now, the voters of South Nyack approved the dissolution of the Village. Having had the opportunity to talk with residents prior to the vote, I knew that it was not an easy decision and that many that voted yes did so reluctantly. But the vote is over and it is now time for us to come together – both elected officials and residents alike – to work toward making the transition as seamless as it can be for everyone involved. It is time for all of us to put aside divisive language – the “we” versus “them” - and to work toward making Orangetown an “us.” Like Blauvelt, Orangeburg, Palisades, Pearl River, Sparkill, Tappan and Upper Grandview – being in unincorporated Orangetown does not mean that a hamlet does not have its own unique personality. South Nyack will remain South Nyack, with its distinctive qualities and characteristics, even after the dissolution. I look forward to working with Mayor Christian, the Village Trustees and the entire Orangetown Town Board to ensure that happens
Respectfully,

Dear Pearl River Middle School Families,
Mr. Peter R.G. Pirate (Pirate Pete) has asked the PTA for our help in kicking off the virtual holiday season in true pirate fashion. What’s more “pirate” than our very own treasure/scavenger hunt? Grab your family members and a travel mug of hot chocolate.
Read the numbered clues below. The clues will direct you to a place in town where you must search for a sign to find the answer and fill in the blanks. Once you find the answer, circle the letter as indicated in brackets at the end of the clue (e.g., second letter or fourth letter). Put that letter into its corresponding number spot in the final answer key below. Very important. Once you solve the puzzle, you must submit an email to PRMSholiday@gmail.com with your name, grade, the answer and a festive photo of you.
Photos may be used for the yearbook. All complete and correct entries will be entered into a raffle for an Amazon gift card. The winner for each grade will be announced on December 23rd. Happy hunting and good luck!

Below are some winter driving tips, from the Orangetown Police Department, to help keep you safe in your travels.
- Drive slowly. It’s harder to control or stop your vehicle on a slick or snow-covered road.
- Increase your following distance enough so that you'll have plenty of time to stop for vehicles ahead of you.
- Remember that every vehicle handles differently; this is particularly true when driving on wet, icy, or snowy roads. Take the time to learn how it handles under winter weather driving conditions, before heading out.
- Know the weather and traffic conditions, and plan your route accordingly.
- Give yourself more time to get where you’re going because you’ll be driving more slowly in inclement weather.
