Dear Friends,

Summer has officially arrived, bringing with it ice cream, watermelon, and swimming! Last week the Westchester County Department of Health gave approval for the Rye YMCA pools to open.  I'm happy to announce that we will open Brookside and Pa Cope pools on Tuesday, July 7.

Like much of life these days, swimming at the Y will look different for a while. It'll be lap swim only, one person per lane, and by reservation only. However, for those of you who have missed your water workouts, it's a chance to dive back into the Y.

And if you prefer dry land exercise, you'll be happy to know that starting July 7, we will also offer a limited schedule of outdoor Group Exercise classes. Please look for information about the lap swim and group ex classes in our monthly e-newsletter. The newsletter, which will go out on Wednesday, will also include a link to a Welcome Back video that details the steps we've taken to ensure your safety and what you can expect when you return.

I'm also pleased to report that our Summer Childcare Program started today.  Forty-eight children ages 5-12 will enjoy games, outdoor play, gym time and arts and crafts, while working parents and guardians will have peace of mind knowing that their kids are safely and actively engaged. It's exciting to once again hear the sounds of children laughing and playing throughout our building.

Unfortunately, into every summer a little rain must fall. We were disappointed to learn last week that fitness centers will not be included in New York State's Phase 4 reopening. The good news is that we're ready to go and remain hopeful that the restrictions on YMCAs and other gyms will be lifted soon. We know many of you are eager to return to your fitness routine so we will keep you posted. Stay tuned!

Finally, a word about our Annual Campaign.  Our spring fundraising appeal went out last week and we're so grateful for your generous response. These are difficult times - for the Y and for our neighbors who are facing economic hardship. But we are heartened by your loyalty and by your commitment to a diverse and inclusive Y. Because you have stayed with us, because you care, we will reopen stronger than ever.

Thank you for being part of the Rye Y family. We appreciate each and every one of you, and wish you a happy, safe July 4th holiday.

Sincerely,
Gregg Howells
Executive Director
