Celebrate Safely This Season to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19
Cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, and around the country, have significantly increased since the Thanksgiving holiday. You can help slow the spread by celebrating this holiday season responsibly and taking these recommended steps:

  • Celebrate only with those in your household
  • Host a virtual celebration with extended family and friends
  • Postpone travel

Memorial Bench Installed to Honor Cai Shen
A new granite bench was recently added at Lincoln Park in the woods alongside the Teresa and Roberta Lee Fitness and Nature Path. This bench commemorates the life of Cai Shen (Cai pronounced as “Chai”), a Lexington resident and victim of a domestic violence crime that took place on May 30, 2019. Ms. Cai lived near Lincoln Park, where she often spent her leisure time.

Cai Shen would be celebrating her 51st birthday today, December 18. A small dedication ceremony for the Cai Shen Memorial Bench is scheduled to take place on December 19. We encourage the community to visit the bench if in the area of Lincoln Park.

For support and resources on domestic violence, please contact the Lexington Human Services Department at 781-698-4840 or visit LexingtonMA.gov/DV.
Town Staff Takes Innovative Approach to Encourage Wearing Masks
Town staff have received a flood of complaints of people not wearing masks in public since the Governor's order was first put in place back in May. It's something every town/city is grappling with. After the Governor's updated order requiring masks in public places, regardless of ability to distance, Town staff decided to take a lighthearted and innovative approach to encouraging mask compliance.

Four members of the Town's senior management team dressed up as superheroes and passed out free masks last weekend, to the delight of people of all ages. Drivers honked, and people asked to take photos with the dynamic foursome as they strolled down Mass. Ave. and on the Minuteman Bikeway. They offered a kind smile as they encouraged everyone to stay safe and take the proffered mask, if only to pass on to someone else who might need one.

In 2 hours, they gave out over 2,000 masks and made a lot of people smile.

Masks are one of the best tools to help slow the spread of COVID-19, and our Town's leadership is willing to step outside the box to share that message.

Help Keep Pedestrians Safe; Clear Snow From Sidewalks If You Can
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen an uptick in people taking walks to get some fresh air and exercise. While our Department of Public Works does an excellent job of clearing the majority of our sidewalks, we ask that if you see an uncleared sidewalk near your home (and are able to help) to please clear it for people passing through.

We also ask that if there's a fire hydrant near your home, to please shovel the space around it. In the event of a fire, every moment is critical to savings lives, and our Fire Department would greatly appreciate the help.
