Judicaël Perroy began playing the guitar at age 7. Considered a prodigy, at age 11 he performed as soloist in two concertos by Vivaldi with Ensemble Instrumental du Mans. At 14, he won second prize at the International guitar competition of Ile de France. In 1992, he won the grand prize and audience prize at the 15th Concours international de guitare René Bartoli by unanimous jury decision. In 1994, he received Licence de Concert from Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris from Alberto Ponce's class and later that year he was awarded the 1st prize at the 7th International Competition of Bourg-Madame where the final vote was by the general public without a jury. In 1997 he captured the prestigious first prize of the Guitar Foundation of America International Competition.

Several of Perroy's students have gone on to themselves win the GFA competition. We are lucky to have him in the Bay Area. Since 2017 Perroy has taught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music while also maintaining an active international concert schedule.

Now listen to his beautiful rendering of Barrios's Choro de Saudade and watch him defeat the impossible stretch by using a left thumb bar:

The Perroy concert will be opened with a 15-minute prelude performance by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Guitar Youth Orchestra led by Scott Cmiel.

Once a month the society hosts an open mic at which guitarists of all ages and abilities try out their latest efforts in a welcoming atmosphere. You can perform or just enjoy the music. It is free of charge. We meet from 7 to 9 pm at San Jose's Vineland Library at 1450 Blossom Hill Road. We record the open mic performances and, if the guitarist agrees, post them on our YouTube and Facebook pages and on Instagram. Check out examples: SBGS open mic videos. The host for the March open mic is Ben Zussman, a local guitar teacher and performer . Please join us on Tuesday, March 24.
