Should LT have to close school for inclement weather or any other issue in the next month, please be aware that Presidents Day, February 17, may become a student attendance day. Please plan accordingly.

Without a closing, Presidents Day will remain a holiday and school will be closed Monday, February 17, for staff and students.
Parent Community Network is hosting a screening of the documentary, "Screenagers: Next Chapter," January 30, 7:30pm in the NC Reber Center. The movie examines the science behind teen's emotional challenges, the interplay of social media, and most importantly, what can be done in schools and homes to help them build crucial skills to navigate stress, anxiety, and depression in our digital age.

Tickets are free with pre-registration or $5 at the door. Watch the trailer at Screenagers.

TIME TO CONSIDER COURSES FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR
This week, students will attend group guidance sessions held by counselors. At these sessions, students will receive directions on how to select courses and how to input their requests into Infinite Campus, which will be open January 17 at 3pm to January 24 at 3pm. After students input course requests, they will attend individual review meetings with their counselors.

As students consider courses for next year, there are a few new offerings to note.
  • Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles: This year long course will now be offered at South Campus for the first time.
  • Basic Self-Defense for Girls: A new semester long physical education class offered at the junior and senior levels.
  • American Sign Language: Third and fourth year options are now available.

  • Also, be sure to explore increased opportunities for dual credit (p. 29 of the Academic Program Guide). Dual credit is awarded by a college or university in addition to the credit earned at LT.
    24-HOUR RULE IN EFFECT
The cold and flu season is right around the corner. Please remember that a student who has been sick with a fever or vomiting must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please know that the same applies to all faculty and staff. Also, remember to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer and avoid touching your eyes or face. These two items are excellent lines of defense against the spread of germs.
TIME TO PLAN FOR SUMMER SCHOOL
Spend this summer taking a consumer economic class or learning to be part of a television station. Learn to bowl, participate in lacrosse or join the percussion camp.

Register for a summer academic or activity program. Early in-district course/activity registration runs from noon Monday, February 3, through 11:59pm on Sunday, February 9, 2020. All registrations must be processed through the webstore.

Click Summer Program for specific information about classes and camps, including the registration process. You can also access additional information by opening the Summer Program Guide.
CELEBRATE MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. WITH LT TONIGHT
The Black and Multi-Cultural Club is hosting a Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration this evening at 6:30-8pm in the SC PAC. This event, entitled Everybody Can Be Great, is free for the entire LT community and will feature keynote speaker Rev. James Foster.

The program will feature the LT Steppers, a song by the LT choir, poems, reflections and a variety of other tributes and performances by local churches, staff, students and community members.
SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER EARNS NATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Social Studies teacher Katy Newcomb recently earned the title of National Board Certified teacher and Master Teacher designation on the Illinois Professional Educator License. Newcomb is LT's only current Board-certified teacher.

National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. It is the most respected professional certification available in K-12 education.

In order to become Board-certified, teachers complete a performance-based, peer-reviewed process, demonstrating their proven impact on student learning and achievement. Over the past three years, Newcomb worked to complete its four required components.
PUT YOUR TRIVIA TO THE TEST AT TEAM TRIVIA NIGHT
The LT Boosters Club and Parent Teacher Council are hosting a Team Trivia Night S aturday, February 1, at Bella Banquets, 5412 S. LaGrange Rd. in Countryside. Doors open at 6pm and questions begin at 7pm.

Teams of ten maximum. Register a team for $200 or an individual ticket for $30. Pay online at
LT Boosters & PTC Trivia Night.
CHECK OUT THE NEW SERIES OF LION STORIES
This month marks the beginning of a new series called Lion Stories. Each month the entertaining and inspiring story of a student, staff member or alumnus will be featured.

The inaugural story is about English teacher Joseph Maffey and his interesting connection to a worldwide phenomenon.

To read each installment, be sure to join the District Facebook page or log onto the Lion Stories page on the web.
