Concussions & Rowan's Law

As you are aware, phase one of Rowan's Law came into effect in July 2019.  You may not be aware that the second phase comes into effect July 1, 2020. While we had very little time to implement the first phase, we now can ensure all the requirements for the entire law are implemented properly and completely before the July date.

A Concussion Policy has been developed by Ontario Sailing for use across the province so the first step for each club is to adopt the Ontario Sailing Concussion Policy in its entirety. Please do not make changes to the policy, and its associated procedures, as these cover the requirements of the law and help ensure consistency across the province to make participation in events easier for everyone.

All our concussion resources and tools are available online at https://ontariosailing.ca/concussion-information/

We also have documents to assist clubs in the steps involved to implement the policy and procedures and ensure you are following each aspect of the legislation including a template to adopt the provincial policy. We are here to support you in meeting the provincial legal requirements.

Please access the COAST Resource Library and/or contact Lisa Roddie ( [email protected] ) for help implementing.
DON'T FORGET!

If you are a Sailing or Cruising School and you use the Checklick system to record the progress of your students, please ensure that you record their progress (both CANSail and  Cruising/Navigation/Power levels) for 2019 into the Checklick database before December 31, 2019.

It is important that participants' records are up-to-date and that participants receive their seals and certificates of achievement in a timely manner.

Please contact Laura at [email protected] if you need assistance.

*Please note that Ontario Sailing will be closed for the holidays starting on Friday, December 20, 2019.  Please ensure that you reach out to Laura by Wednesday, December 18th if you need assistance.
