Lion

Pride,

To all the moms, moms-to-be, aunts, grandmothers, godmothers, sisters, or anyone else who is helping to serve as a strong positive female role model for a younger person, my hat's off to you. I hope each of you have a wonderful mother's day.

In addition to shouting out all the moms (and everyone else who serves in a mothering role), I have a few more shout outs to give:

  • Shout out to our PTO for not only providing our staff a week's worth of goodies and treats, but for working hard to restart the PTO post-COVID. Ms. Workman and Ms. Krashner, thank you both for all the hard work you have put into this year.
  • Shout out to all the parents in the Lions Pride After School program for their quick response to our call to come pick-up early on Friday due to the potential storms. You all responded quickly, and did so in a positive manner.
  • Shout out to the parents who helped celebrate our teachers this past week by bringing in flowers, notes, and goodies for their teachers.
  • Shout out to Ms. Matthews and Ms. Brien for taking the time to make the rocks at our entrance look refreshed and welcoming.
  • Shout out to the York Chamber of Commerce and their Leadership York County group for spending the day with us on Saturday to help transform our back "play area" into a sensory garden.

And lastly, I'd like to give a special shout out to the hard working and amazing team of teachers, assistants, and other staff members who give 100% of themselves every day to improve the outcomes of the students at Riverwalk Academy. I have been so humbled to collaborate, work, and lead alongside this group of teachers. I am proud of them. To this group, thank you for making me a better educator, leader, and person.

Lions, we're down to the final two full weeks of school . . . . we got this.

Stay Strong and Stay Focused!

Calling On Our Pride:  Blue Envelopes

We have a tradition that we'd like to start with our seniors that we're calling the Blue Envelope.  We're encouraging any to consider writing a letter to one of our seniors.   We'll be collecting these letters (either through the mail, or dropped off to Ms. Robinson) until May 20th.  On the 24th, during their senior breakfast, each senior will receive a large blue envelope that contains all of the letters written to them.   If you know any senior, write them a note.  If you don't personally know any of them, that's okay too.  They'd still love to hear from you.

EOCEP (End of Course Examination Program) - high school courses

The End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) is a statewide assessment program of end-of-course tests for gateway courses awarded units of credit in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The EOCEP encourages instruction in the specific standards for the courses, encourages student achievement, and documents the level of students’ mastery of the academic standards. Gateway courses in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies will be defined by the State Board of Education. EOCEP examination scores count 20 percent in the calculation of the student’s final grade in gateway courses. Defined gateway courses currently include Algebra 1, Intermediate Algebra, Biology 1, English 2, and United States History and the Constitution, or courses with other names and activity codes in which the academic standards corresponding to these subjects are taught.

Our students will take their tests on the following dates for the courses listed. As listed above, all testing will begin at 8:30am, any student arriving after 8:15am will not be allowed to test and will have to take the test during the make-up session on May 20, 2022. These are the only dates these exams will be given.

Greetings,

Happy Mother’s Day!

Wow! This week was one of the busiest I have experienced this year. Monday we started the week with 100% attendance at our US History EOCEP.

Tuesday was a break from testing, but the evening was our first ever High School Awards Night. It was an evening full of fun, laughter, and strong emotions. For our seniors, it was their final awards evening. I have watched them grow so much the last five years! All of the adults in attendance realized that graduation is going to be even more emotional. Wednesday was our first big day of testing and despite the Flu and Strep hitting a few families, we had great attendance.

Thursday was another big day of testing and we did have a few extra hiccups, but it was another great day.

Friday was a day for getting some of the make-up testing done; the students and teachers again made it a terrific day.

The whole week was teacher appreciation and every day had a theme thanks to the PTO. Watching the students bring in donuts, coffee, flowers and gifts all week brought an extra large smile to my face every day. Our teachers are some of the best, most caring, giving teachers I have met and they deserve appreciation every day, but especially at the end of the school year.

Saturday rounded out the busiest week for me with over five hours of work outside on our campus. We (my son and I) helped build a sensory garden for our students. Thanks to the LYCO (Chamber of Commerce of York County) Class of 2022, many plants, supplies and hands went into creating this garden. Riverwalk is honored and blessed to have such support from the community. We will have to work hard to continue to build what has been started. I have confidence that our Pride will be successful with this task. Needless to say, I have grabbed naps during this week when I could and made it through. I’m writing this on Saturday, but I know I will try to have a restful and calm Mother’s Day Sunday. Thank you for another wonderful week.

This coming week will be full of more testing, but I know our students will keep doing their best. Please keep bringing the students on time, well rested, healthy breakfasts in their stomachs and ready to keep performing. Let us know if you have any questions, concerns or need anything to help your students. My email: kcarr@riverwalkacademy.com.

Hugs,

Mrs. Carr

Happy Sunday and Happy Mothers Day!

We are getting really close to the end of the school year and I’m cherishing every moment with our students and staff before summer. We had a great time at our senior picnic on Friday with our group of students. While the weather held off for most of the event, it eventually down poured and we had to cut it a little short. This made for some funny memories having to load everything up in the rain. I love getting to spend time with these students. Parents, as time moves forward, I know that students experience different things as middle and high schoolers. During the good, the bad, and the ugly, please encourage your students to have a trusted adult in their life. Whether that be you, me, a teacher, or someone else, my goal for each student would be for them to have someone in their life they can open up to and trust. Please tell them to reach out if they need someone to talk to, I am always here to listen! Here’s a few reminders for the week…

Things to know:

  • 8th through 10th grade families, two weeks ago I sent home attendance recovery letters with students who have missed more than 6 unexcused days of school. The state requires students taking high school credit courses to meet certain seat time requirements which is why attendance make up is necessary. If students do not make up days required, they will not receive a grade or credit for their course. Attendance Recovery sessions started May 2nd and run until May 19th on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. They must be paid for prior to the session through the school store. Students will be in the classroom from 3:30-5:00 working on other school work or test prep. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to me at cmenges@riverwalkacademy.com. 11th and 12th grade students will get this form Tuesday and have already started working towards this make up with the teachers at York Tech.

  • Middle/High, please eat a good breakfast, get a good nights sleep, and be prepared for testing this week. You’ve got this!

See you tomorrow!
