An Invitation to Write

The family vacation is very different right now for a lot of us. From staycations, to camping, to visiting sites in an RV, we've had to change our expectations.

What are your plans this summer and how are you feeling about them? Go!

Journeys | An Invitation to Gather

We invite you to join us for a virtual community gathering, hosted by Lisa Rocklin. Write a piece to share and/or simply be present to listen. Writing prompts for these readings focus on inward journeys. Whether urgently progressing toward new understandings, wandering a solitary path of personal discovery, or thinking of how you've arrived where you are now, we invite you to write and share what you're finding.

This open mic-style reading for All Genders ages 14+ will be held via Zoom online conferencing. Join us as we explore the idea of JOURNEYS!

What Will Your Legacy Be?

Your smile, your voice, your ideas, your writing...
Perhaps the way you encourage those around you. Your legacy can also inspire the inner voices of countless future circle members--to support them, to spark the writer within. Please consider a legacy gift to WWf(a)C in your will, trust or beneficiary designation. It will nurture this community for years to come!
Summer Camps 2020:
Covid Can't Keep Us Down

The magic of summer camp at WWf(a)C is hard to describe. We couldn't be together in the downstairs space designed for young people, but in the words of one 2020 camper: "I liked that the magic of the experience wasn't lost despite being virtual."

After revamping our programming to keep that magic alive in 2020, we have successfully completed our Virtual Summer Camps, serving students in grades 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Goodie bags with craft supplies were personally delivered to homes; candles were lit in bedrooms and back porches; guest artists were welcomed; small groups and readarounds were held; and young writers from as far away as California became part of our virtual circles.

The past several months have been especially challenging for young people. One camper wrote: "I needed a break from my world and to be in a peaceful environment, an escape. I got that. Not quite as much as I would've liked, but anything counts." Another camper shared: "It allowed me to take time for myself, enjoy the presence of others, and take back some of my writing for creativity."

We are grateful to the young writers and parents who made summer camps possible this year. Special thanks to our facilitators, Janie Baer, Ally Bonhaus, Hannah Simon Goldman, Maura O'Dea, Lisa Prantl, Lisa Rocklin, Pam Temple, and guest artists Amanda Ashley, Jaye Elizabeth Johnson, Liv Linn, and Meg Stentz. Our annual summer camp anthology will be published later this year.

We hope to bring the magic back to the building next summer!

A Note from Executive
Director Lisa Rocklin

Thank you to all of our current students who participated in a recent online survey to share their thoughts on COVID-19. Your feedback demonstrated an overwhelming preference to continue VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING as our delivery system for the remainder of 2020.

This data, in combination with current spikes in COVID-19 outbreaks, reaffirms our decision to  continue with VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING for the remainder of 2020.  This protects the health of all while maintaining the meaningful connections we make as writers in community.
