IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution Opportunity
Although the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act suspended required minimum distributions from IRAs and other qualified retirement accounts in 2020, IRA owners age 70.5 and above can still make qualified charitable distributions of up to $100,000 per person, per year from their accounts this calendar year.
If you make a direct transfer from your IRA to COS, WELS, or other 501c3 charities, you are not liable for income tax on that part of your distribution. The transfer must be in the charity’s name, not yours. This has been a permanent part of our tax code since 2016.
While such distributions may be made at any time during the year, since just several weeks remain in 2020 you are encouraged to move forward with this soon if you want to do it in this calendar year..
2021 Offering Envelopes
Those enrolled in COS online giving can “opt out” of having a box of 2021 offering envelopes assigned to them. Inform Tom Marten of your decision to opt out. Those not opting out will be able to pick up their 2021 offering envelopes at church starting this weekend.
2020 Contribution Statements
Annual contribution statements are available via your online COS membership account, accessed via the members tab on either the church website or app. If you neglected to set up your account, contact Pastor Hahm for instructions. You can also contact the church office to request your 2020 contribution statement.
