Twenty years ago today, the nation, and the world, witnessed the worst terrorist attack in the history of the United States.

Those of us alive on September 11, 2001 remember well where we were on that fateful day.

We remember the Americans who lost their lives and continue to rally with their loved ones.

We remember the thousands of first responders – firefighters, law enforcement, medical personnel, and ordinary citizens – who stepped up and ran into harm’s way to save the lives of fellow Americans.

We remember the hundreds of thousands of brave men and women who answered the call to serve our nation in uniform in the fight against terrorism and for freedom over the past 20 years.

We remember our allies around the world who helped us protect freedom along the way.

We remember images of terror and horror, but we also remember images of hope, of courage, of perseverance, of the spirit that fuels this great experiment called America.

We remember that even on our nation’s darkest day, Americans rose up, came together and supported one another.

I want to thank our service members, our intelligence community, our first responders and law enforcement, as well as their families, for their service and sacrifice. It’s because of each of you that we have haven’t seen another 9/11 on our soil for twenty years. We stand with you and appreciate you always.

My heart continues to be with the families of those who died and have suffered in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. We will never forget the Americans who lost their lives on that day or since in the war on terror. We hold their loved ones tight in our hearts and in our prayers.

You proved that the American spirit can never be broken nor bent. We will always stand for freedom and democracy and we will never forget.

God Bless our troops and God Bless America.
Sincerely,
Young Kim
