Students Celebrate Christmas
in Special Combined Chapel
For the final chapel of the year, all grades combined for a special Christmas Chapel. Students school-wide enjoyed dressing in Christmas clothes and were led in worship by the Praise Team, Band, and Chorus. Mr. Akin shared a Christmas devotional, and the second-grade students quoted Luke Chapter 2. It was a special time for students, faculty, staff, and parents to celebrate Christmas together as a school.

Prince third-grade students recently completed a Christmas project in which they donated six handmade blankets to local law enforcement to be used as comfort items for children in emergency or crisis situations.

With the help of a Prince grandmother who prepared materials ahead of time and taught students how to construct the blankets, students worked together to assemble the blankets.

Third-grade teacher Kimberly Howard explained that the project sparked an understanding in students that there are many children in difficult situations. “The children learn an awareness of others and to be thankful for what they have.”

The blankets were presented to Prince parents who work in law enforcement. Winder/Barrow police officers Lieutenant Rikki Banks and Sergeant John Yarbrough received the items from students. Lieutenant Banks is the mother of 8th-grader Mason Banks, and Sergeant Yarbrough is the father of 5th-grader Cale Yarbrough.

Representative Gaines Visits
Prince Lunch and Learn
Prince high school students recently enjoyed Lunch and Learn with State Representative Houston Gaines. Representative Gaines graduated from the University of Georgia and was the student body president of his class. He represents District 117.

Representative Gaines explained his responsibilities in the State House throughout the year. He encouraged students to be more involved with politics and shared how important faith is when making political decisions. He also explained how to disagree with others with opposing views in a respectful way.

Representative Gaines is preparing to run for office again in 2020.
Middle School Science Students Complete Lab
Mr. Wentworth’s 8th-grade science students recently completed a lab in which they simmered purple cabbage leaves in water in order to extract a purple pigment, anthocyanin. They added a drop or two of various chemicals to observe the anthocyanin change to red, blue, green, or clear. They then conducted online research in order to understand and explain the molecular changes that each chemical produced in the anthocyanin and how those molecular changes produced the changes in color. Students concluded their lab by summarizing their hands-on process and the results of their research in standard scientific lab journals.
