Congregational Meeting Report
Sunday, April 10, 2022

Highland Presbyterian Church held a special meeting of the Congregation on Sunday, April 10, 2022, following worship. The purpose of the meeting was twofold: first to consider a Property Servitude Agreement between Highland Presbyterian Church and America Homelands, property owner and developer of the adjoining property; and second, if the agreement receives approval, to appoint an Agent to act on behalf of Highland Presbyterian Church. A quorum of 14 Active members was present.

The Congregation of Highland voted to approve the Servitude Agreement with America Homelands and to appoint Margaret Louise Dye to serve as Agent.
Session News
Session Meeting - April 6, 2022
Business:

  • Session approved the Facility Use Request of Narcotics Anonymous for use of the Great Hall on Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 5:00 – 10:00 pm.
  • Session approved the Facility Use Request of Narcotics Anonymous for use of the Great Hall on Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 5:00 – 10:00 pm.
  • Session approved the Facility Use Request of Grace Notes School of Music for use of the Sanctuary for a Chamber Music Concert on Monday, May 16, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:30 pm.
  • Session approved the Facility Use Request from Ester Kim for use of the Sanctuary for a music recital on May 6 and May 8, 2022, from 2:00 – 7:00 pm. 
  • Session approved the Facility Use Request from Albina Khaliapova for use of the Sanctuary for a piano recital on May 15, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.
  • Session approved calling a Special Congregational Meeting on Sunday, April 10, 2022, following Worship. The purpose of the meeting is to consider a Servitude Agreement between America Homelands, adjoining property owner and developer, and Highland Presbyterian Church; and if approved, designating Margaret Louise Dye to act as Agent for Highland Presbyterian Church in signing on their behalf.

Committee Reports:

Clerk of Session - Correspondence:  
  • An Easter card was received from Laura Fleming of Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services.
  • An informational letter about the Smile-Maker Club was received from Evergreen Life Services.
  • An informational letter was received from the Presbyterian Church’s (U.S.A.) Re-stricted Funds Oversight Subcommittee.
  • An introductory email was received from Steve Wallace. Steve will be Highland’s liaison on the PSL Committee on Ministry.
  • An email was received from Kiseong Lee, pastor of the Korean Hansarang Church of Baton Rouge. Mr. Lee is looking for rental space for his church. Louise Dye will schedule a meeting with him.

Pastor’s Report
  • Pastor Day brought in an article from Christian Century (January 12, 2022) titled “Bodies in Silence” by Chris Palmer. The article will be copied and made available to Session members.  

Christian Education & Congregational Care
  • Lenten devotional materials were made available online and in hard copy.
  • Easter cards will be sent to members currently unable to attend in person.
  • Lagniappe Ladies gathered at the Southern Pearl restaurant in March. The next meeting will be April 20, 2022, at Drago’s in Baton Rouge.
  • Books appropriate for first graders are being collected in support of Highland’s annual Gift of Literacy project with Magnolia Woods Elementary.

Evangelism/Membership
  • The average attendance for February was 19 and the average for March was 17. We welcomed visitors in February and March. 

Finance
  • For the month of February Income of $5,799.00 exceeded expenses of $5.184.28 by $614.72. Elder Jack Bagent reviewed the February Financial Report and found all to be in good order.

Missions
  • Bread was delivered to the Shepherd’s Market on four Mondays in February and four Mondays in March. Items from the basket in the sanctuary were delivered on February 28 and March 21.  
  • The One Great Hour of Sharing Offering will be received on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022. A Minute for Mission will be on Palm Sunday, April 10.

Property
  • The vegetable garden has been planted.
  • Grass mowing has begun.

Worship
  • Rev. Michael Elmore will serve as Pulpit Supply April 24, 2022, during Rev. Day's vacation.
