MARCH BREAKFAST GROUP MEETING
March 18, 2020 - Wednesday
9:30 - 12:00 Noon

Veterans Memorial Complex,
4117 Overland Ave., Culver City

Speakers: Judy Felkai and Susan Birnberg
“I Think Daddy Was A Ritchie Boy!”
Los Angeles Brandeis Men's Group (LABMG) is pleased to host twin sisters Judy Felkai and Susan Birnberg, as they relate their father's involvement and service during World War II as one of the famous "Ritchie Boys!"

Known collectively simply as the "Ritchie Boys", this was a group of over 15,000 officers and enlisted men who were chosen and trained during WWII to be interrogators and intelligence operatives. A substantial percentage of these men were young and recent Jewish emigrants from Germany and Austria, who were selected on the basis of their superior language skills and knowledge of German culture. Following specialized training at Camp Ritchie in Maryland, these men were used by the US Army as interrogators, intelligence gatherers, counterintelligence operators, and psychological warfare specialists. "The Ritchie Boys" is a documentary film based on their achievements which was released in 2004.

The cost of Breakfast is $15 for members and guests. It is free for first-time guests and prospective members.

FEBRUARY'S GUEST SPEAKER
Suzanne Reyto
"Violins of Hope "

Suzanne Reyto was our Guest Speaker for February. She explained the history of "Violins of Hope" organization and its connections to the Holocaust, and further described how its mission today is to educate others of the hope and optimism that music brings to the world.

The accompanying photo shows BMG member Bernie Schiffer holding a Hope violin with a Magen David inlay. The design of this instrument is illustrative of the Klezmer musical traditions of Ashkenazi Jews in eastern Europe.
