COACHING: WINDOW WITH A VIEW

January 2021
The Pennsylvania Key Coaching Team welcomes you to another edition of Coaching: Window with a View. We invite you to engage and respond to questions posed as well as sharing exciting and insightful resources that facilitate reflection and critical thinking.
Hello, Coaching Family!

2020 is over, and 2021 is upon us. We hope that some of the challenges we faced in 2020 will subside in 2021. With that said, we know we will face new challenges because VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) is the world in which we live.

So, how do we continue to support others that we sometimes feel care less about their situation/ commitments than we do?

Answer: Coaches have to see people as always doing their best to meet/follow through on their commitments and release our attachment to their commitment.

What does that mean we need to do as coaches?
  • Normalize breakdowns – they are bound to happen and have the potential to reveal something interesting.
  • Acknowledge breakdowns and remain curious to investigate them together.
  • Recognize that breakdowns do not always represent something significant.
  • Adjust our lens, so breakdowns are not viewed as failures, negative, or resistance, rather learning opportunities.
  • Release our attachment to what we think should happen.

Finally, “Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It’s quite simple, really. Double your rate of failure.” – Thomas Watson.

Also, if you have a suggestion for a newsletter topic or want to write and submit an article yourself, we’d love for you to share it with us.
