Good afternoon, CCDS Families,

Our schoolwide theme for 2020-2021 is "Unlock the Possibilities." We can't wait to embrace this theme and use this idea as we explore the opportunities in the year ahead.

Thank you all for your responses to the June survey. We will continue to seek your feedback and input as the year progresses. We hope our CCDS community is an example of what is possible this year, showing grace, kindness, flexibility, and creativity. Our teachers and staff are the best in the business and we will do what CCDS does - know and love our students, build a joyful community, play, laugh, learn, and thrive.

Like all things COVID-19 related, we are staying up-to-date with the current information and flexible to what may need to shift based on guidance from Public Health Agencies and the Governor.

Our goals as we look toward the safe reopening campus:
  • ALL students back to school as soon as possible.
  • ALL staff back to school as soon as possible.
  • Maintaining consistency for ALL students.
  • Providing a safe and healthy campus for the entire CCDS community.
  • Reopen and Stay Open

How are we framing our thinking?

Guided by Public Health Experts
All decisions will be guided by the latest public health recommendations from BCPH, CDPH, and the CDC.
Collective Safety

Planning with the Full CCDS Community
Planning for next year will require the creativity and collective knowledge of our entire organization.

Guidance from CA Dept of Ed and Public Health: CA Stronger Together Document

Key Highlights from CDE
  • Physical Distancing - 6 feet as much as possible
  • Screening for Symptoms - At home and school
  • Hygiene Protocols - Focus on teaching students
  • Face Coverings - Following CA Guidelines
  • Deep Cleaning Protocols - Sanitizing high-touch places
  • Quarantine Procedures - Closure up to 14 days per Public Health
Considerations
  • NO schools or districts can accomplish all of these and have ALL students on campus at the same time
  • We must be prepared for closures impacting our campus.

Following the guidance we have received as well as our outlined goals, we are preparing five different levels of capacity for 2020-2021, with the flexibility to move between those levels as needed based on safety of staff and students. The levels include full distance learning, a blended model of half the students on campus at a time, and full capacity when physical distancing is no longer indicated. I will detail all of this in upcoming communication and an online family meeting.

This model allows us to plan our professional development, takes into consideration the likelihood of some building closures, and gives us opportunities to build capacity. I look forward to detailing the levels and how each will look at CCDS. Keep in mind that in addition to our five levels of capacity, we will also offer a fully virtual semester for any families who are interested in that route.

We would like to hear your feedback on our planning up to this point and will be hosting an online Community Meeting later this week. It will be live via YouTube and the link will be shared after the event if you are unable to watch live. Details to follow.

You are also welcome to email us with your questions or feedback at admin@chicocountryday.org.

We will follow the 2020-2021 School Calendar adopted by our Board, with the first day of school being August 19th, whether in person or virtually.

The uncertainty of these times is extremely challenging and we understand that many of the predictable structures of our lives are turned upside down. I know our community will step in to support each other, look for solutions, and be the models of all that is possible during this time. You all are what makes CCDS a beautiful and joyful place to learn and even during COVID19, that doesn't change. We're in this together and will look for solutions together to the challenges ahead.

We look forward to discussing our school operations for 2020-2021 with you all later this week.

Warmly,

Wendy, Amie, Claudia, and Margaret
