Girls Basketball & Cheer Updates

Congratulations to our Girls Basketball Team on a successful season.  They played with their hearts and represented WCA with class in the playoffs. Congratulations on the most successful season WCA has ever had. Thank you Coach Cox for developing our athletes.

Intent to Enroll Begins Monday
We are eagerly looking forward to next year ! According to our enrollment policy, K-7th grade families are required to submit an Intent to Return form each Spring to secure a place at WCA the following academic year.

The 2020-21 Intent to Return process begins on Monday, February 24 for current K-7 students only. The deadline to submit the form and pay the $200 non-refundable student fee is Wednesday, March 11. Even if your child is not returning, we still need you to submit the form by March 11. Please complete one form per family. Current preschoolers should NOT complete this form. 

The student fee required for next year is $200 per student. You may pay by check (made payable to WCA), cash, cashier's check, or online. If you qualify for free and reduced lunch, this fee may be reduced or waived.

IF BOTH THE INTENT TO RETURN FORM AND THE STUDENT FEE ARE NOT SUBMITTED BY MARCH 11, WE CAN NOT GUARANTEE ENROLLMENT FOR NEXT YEAR.

Laisse le Bon Temps RoulĂ© (Let the Good Times Roll) 

Mardi Gras will be celebrated at WCA on Tuesday, February 25. The French program has planned games and crafts for students K-8th grade. 
WCA students are allowed to wear a polo with beads, solid colors for Mardi Gras are gold/yellow, green, purple (no masks allowed please). 

Mardi Gras is the celebration before Ash Wednesday which starts the period of Lent. 
Our My Kid's Lunch program will also offer a Cajun style meal, please log in to your account and order from there. 

Third and fourth graders will present a simplified version of the tale Le Petit Chaperon Rouge (Little Red Riding Hood)  starting at 11:10 in the cafeteria.  Second graders will perform a song about a wolf. 
Parents are welcome to attend.

6th-8th Grade School Spring Fling

Cougar Committee is hosting a Spring Fling on February 28, 
5-8pm, in the gym. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at door and they will be sold next week in the morning and at lunch.

Your students must follow the dress code which is:
3 Finger width sleeves (min.)
Fingertip length
Must cover your back
No low-cut necklines
Moderately conservative dress


 

If students violate this dress code they will be asked to wear a jacket for the entire dance  or, if appropriate, change clothes.
Food and drink will be provided for the students and we will also need parents to volunteer to help. If you are interested in donating food or supplies or chaperoning, please sign up here.


WCA Yard Signs

Help spread the word about World Compass Academy, by putting a sign in your yard or outside of your local business. 
For each month you have the sign up, you will earn 4 hours of volunteer time!

Please fill out our yard sign information form and pick up your sign
 in the front office. Share a photo of your sign in your yard or in front of your local business and tag us on Facebook and/or Instagram.

Read Across America Week

Dr. Seuss' Birthday is March 2 and we are excited to celebrate! We have some fun themed days planned for the week of March 2 - March 6 and wanted to share these dates with you in advance for planning students' outfits, should you choose to participate. 

Please note that Elementary and Middle School have different themed days. See images below.



Science Fair

Calling all science enthusiasts! The science fair is required for all 4th graders but open to all other grades.  If you were interested in completing a science fair project, please check out the requirements and how to sign up which can be found HERE. All projects must be completed by March 10 and will be on display in the gym.

Explorers Club Update

Explorers Club Spring Break enrollment is well under way!  
The deadline for Spring Break Camp is March 4th, so please sign up as soon as possible.

https://worldcompass.revtrak.net/rw-explorersclub/. Please note that March 11 and 12 is a separate registration for the 2 days, which this includes both days of activities for $90. Spring Break week will start the following week on March 16th through the 20th, this will be a pick-a-day calendar.

Here is our schedule following spring break, please note that we provide AM and PM snack, however lunch is not provided, so please remember to bring a sack lunch everyday. 

We ask that you make sure your explorer is dressed appropriately during spring break camp, as we do a lot of activities. 
-Closed toe shoes at all times (shoes and socks)
-Water bottle

-Sunscreen applied before you drop off
-Bring a coat if weather permits

Second Round Open-Enrollment
The second round of open enrollment is now open. If you know of someone who did not make it in the first round and still is interested in attending WCA for the 20-21 school year, encourage them to enroll now. We will likely have minimal spots available in some grade levels, and it is first-come, first-served. It is our hope to be able to accommodate everyone who has a desire to be part of the WCA family, but in order to do so, we need early, accurate enrollment numbers, so we can build our staffing accordingly for the coming year.

Music Updates

Instrumental Music classes are available again! Sign up through February 28.

Elementary (K-4)
Violin classes are available for K-2. In February, we will meet every other week on Mondays. In March, beginners will meet on Mondays and advanced players will meet on Tuesdays.

Orchestra (violin, viola, cello, piano) is available after school for 3-4 every other week in February. In March, beginners will meet on Wednesdays and advanced players will meet on Thursdays.

Orchestra (violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano) meet before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 AM.

Band (Trumpet, trombone, baritone, flute, saxophone, clarinet, and percussion) meet before school on Mondays and Wednesdays starting at 7:30.

CMAS Testing

Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) testing will begin the week we return from spring break!  With the dates below in mind, please do your best to have your child at school on time and refrain from making any appointments during the school day if possible.  For a detailed testing schedule or more information on CMAS please visit the " state mandated testing" tab on the WCA website for more information.

3rd/4th grade ELA- March 24th, 25th, and 26th

Foreign Language Testing 

Spanish and French students in 4th, 6th, and 8th grades will be participating in AAPPL Testing (ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages) one day between  Thursday, February 20th and Friday February 28th. Keep an eye out for a letter regarding AAPPL testing to be sent via Infinite Campus.  If you have any questions regarding AAPPL testing, please reach out to your child's foreign language teacher.  

Mandarin Chinese students in 4th, 6th and 8th grades, as well as any student participating in the middle school immersion program will be taking the YCT (Youth Chinese Test) or HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) on  Monday, May 11th.  Keep an eye out for a letter regarding YCT and HSK testing to be sent via Infinite Campus.  If you have any questions regarding YCT/HSK testing, please reach out to your child's foreign language teacher.

Cold Weather Dress Code. Please send your child(ren) in appropriate winter apparel. We do try to go outside for recess pending weather, temperature and windchill. Please ensure that all hats/gloves/sweaters/jackets are labeled.

Volunteer Opportunities.  If you would like to be notified of new volunteer opportunities such as Lunch Helpers, Pizza Friday Helpers, School Photo helpers, please get on our volunteers list by emailing  Heather Ridges-Schneider  at: [email protected]

Formal Uniform Day. Students are required to wear formal uniforms on the first Tuesday of every month. We are a Charter of which requires our families to purchase a formal uniform and want to ensure that we wear them on a regular basis. When students are in their formal uniforms, boys will be required to tuck in their shirts. When casual uniforms are worn, polo shirts may be tucked in or worn out - either way.

Visitor Check-In Policy . We welcome visitors at WCA! It is our policy that visitors must check-in at the front office and be entered into our Raptor system. Proof of identification will be required in the form of a driver's license for each visit to the school. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe. 

Attendance Line & Drop Off.  Please call the Attendance Line at 303-814-5280 by 8:00am  if your child will be tardy or absent.   If you do not see a carpool attendant outside when you drop-off, please come inside to the front office to sign your child in; otherwise, he/she will be marked with an unexcused tardy. If you don't call the Attendance Line to let us know that your child will be tardy or absent, parents will receive an automated call from DCSD. Thank you for your cooperation!
