DEDICATED FROM THE WOMB – LESSON 4
SAMSON
Between the time Joshua settled his people in Canaan and the time Israel was established as a kingdom under Saul, God raised up “judges” as persons of influence and power in the land. Samuel was the fourteenth and last judge, miraculously conceived and dedicated from the womb by Hannah. The thirteenth judge was Samson who also was pre-ordained before conception in the womb.
A man named Manoah had a wife who, like Hannah, was barren. One day, an angel in the human form of a man appeared to the woman and told her that she would conceive and bear a son. (Judges 13.) He gave her specific instructions. She should not drink wine or any strong drink; she should eat no unclean thing nor eat anything that came from the vine. Furthermore, the son must never have a razor come upon his head. He must take a Nazarite vow, which meant his hair is never cut and no alcohol shall pass into his lips.
She told her husband Manoah, who then entreated the LORD to send the man again so that Manoah could speak to him. Manoah did not know it was an angel at this point, nor did his wife.
The man appeared again and confirmed the instructions to Manoah. The man refused the offer of food and refused to give his name. So, Manoah made a meat offering to the LORD upon a rock. As the flame went up, the man ascended upwards in the flame. It was only then known that it was an angel of the Lord.
His wife conceived and bore a son and named him Samson. As he grew, the Holy Spirit moved upon him from time to time to oppose the oppressors of Israel, the Philistines. You may have read of the feats of Samson and his supernatural physical strength. He lifted and carried away the iron entrance gates of a city where he was trapped. He killed a lion with his bare hands. He slew one thousand Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey. He caught three hundred foxes, tied together their tails to make several groups, set the tails on fire, and they ran through their corn fields, wheat fields, and grape and olive vineyards, burning out all the Philistine’s crops.
Samson had some sin problems that got him into trouble and imprisoned as a captive. However, God restored him on his final day of life, and he killed about three thousand more of the enemy, the Philistines.
The key message here for this series is that Samson was pre-ordained by God before he was conceived in his mother’s womb. His mother accepted that word from God and a judge of Israel was born.
God had a plan and revealed it ahead of time. God has a plan for every one of us, but it is not usually foretold like it was for Samson and his mother. We must seek it out from God for ourselves. He will lead you into it, usually just one step at a time, if we earnestly seek Him. However, for a few selected people, He will give them a more specific call on their life for service to Him in a certain capacity.
Whether or not you understand your God-given destiny, delight yourself in the Lord and seek (pursue) His face.

GOD IS AN "I AM" GOD
What is it that you preoccupy your thoughts with? Is it positive or negative? Do you dwell on what you haven’t accomplished or focus always on what you did accomplish?
Our thoughts will control what we do. If you constantly let yourself dwell on your failures, you will never move forward. Satan has a way of peppering our thoughts with everything that we have ever done wrong. It will control us if we listen to his destructive words. He doesn’t want you to have victory. He will entice you to sin through your thoughts, and if you think on it long enough you will give in to it. The thought isn’t sin, it is when it takes root in your soul and you act upon it that it becomes sin.
Likewise, you cannot stay in yesterday’s successes either. If all you think about is what you accomplished a year or five or ten years or more ago, then you are trapped in the past. Those days are gone. You have to move forward.
The scripture says in Psalm 118:24, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Today is our day to rejoice, yesterday is gone, and tomorrow may never come. We must make the most of each day, by guarding our thoughts and casting down thoughts that are not from God.
Enjoy each day, let go of the past, and don’t worry about tomorrow. Live by Matthew 5:34, which says, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
As you do this, the peace that comes from God will guard your heart and mind. Remember, God is the I AM, not the I WAS, or the I WILL BE. He is a now, I AM God.
