September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and we have really enjoyed meeting the 224 people this summer who have already gotten a new library card, whether you just moved to town, are signing up a young member of the family for the first time, or haven’t been to the library since you were a kid and need a new card. 

Did you know that not only is it FREE to get a library card, but your library card gets you lots of FREE resources, such as books, audiobooks, e-books, movies, TV series, music, magazine and newspaper articles, genealogical research, test prep, language learning resources, and so much more? Mystery Book Discussion: The Shape of Water

The Shape of Water follows Sicilian detective Inspector Montalbano as he investigates the suspicious death of an engineer who had made a name for himself in a small town. Copies of the book are available at the Library and a downloadable audiobook is available on Hoopla. For Adults.
Beginner Line Dancing with Heidi

Learn a few basic line dancing steps. We will spend time walking through the steps for all the dances. Then the music goes on, and we practice what we just learned. No previous experience is necessary. All ages are welcome!

This month, we will discuss the podcast Latino USA to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. Winner of a Peabody Award, Latino USA is the longest-running national Latino news and cultural public radio program hosted by journalist Maria Hinojosa. Her company, Futuro Media, is committed to telling stories often overlooked by mainstream media by expanding narratives when a lack of racial equity is presented. For Adults.
Gentle Yoga with Pia Oliveri

Pia is the Owner and Director of Wabi-Sabi Yoga and Wellness Center in Windsor, CT. Through yoga, meditation, and breathwork, she believes healing happens from the inside out. Food Explorers: Southwest Taquitos

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Food Explorers! You’ll be using egg roll wrappers stuffed with filling and then baked to achieve a golden brown, crispy taquito. You’ll need the following ingredients: 1 onion, garlic, 1 bell pepper, 1 can black beans, frozen/canned corn, shredded Mexican cheese, EGGROLL wrappers (found in the refrigerated section/ethnic foods), plus optional: cilantro, cumin, sour cream, lime and avocado. Optional avocado can be combined with sour cream to make a sauce. For Teens and Tweens.
