As 2020 is now reduced to mere hours, many of us are just grateful to see this year finally come to a close. If we were to go back to a year ago today, who could have envisioned that the entire world would endure the many issues and changes that have transpired. But no matter what lies ahead, isn't it wonderful to rest in the fact that God sees, knows and understands exactly what will occur and when?
Holding steady with a prayer-bathed biblical perspective is exactly what we need. It is just what those around us really need as well. No matter how uncertain the times may be, God promises that He will not present us with more than we can handle. First Corinthians 10 holds an oft-quoted verse concerning this guarantee. Verse 13 says,
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
When we feel as if the pressure is just too great its time to "Cast all your care upon Him; for He careth for you" (1 Peter 5:7).
There are so many powerful, peace-producing passages in Scripture but one that I have come back to often in moments of doubt or despair is
Psalm 91. This passage has meant so much to me that I am tempted to quote it in its entirety here but I've just leave you a
link for you and spotlight just a portion.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
What a promise to us from God Himself!
