June 5th is Pentecost / Whitsunday |
|
|
|
On the 50th Day of Eastertide, the church throughout the world remembers the coming of the Holy Spirit and her empowerment to carry the holy gospel into the world. This is the Day of Pentecost, also known as Whitsunday.
On June 5th St. Agnes' will hold a festival Day of Pentecost service at 11:00 a.m.
We encourage you to wear something red to symbolize the "tongues as of fire" mentioned in scripture. Whitsunday / The Day of Pentecost is a great occasion to invite a friend or neighbor to church - so keep that in mind as well!

Last Call for the Banner Project |
|
|
|
This month, June 2022, we will wrap up our fundraiser for the New Church Banner.
If you have any new or additional gift you wish to contribute, please send it in so that our order can go forward.
As announced before, the New Banner Project is our special way of recognizing 30 years of service to the Church Altar Guild at St. Agnes'.
The old banner, sewn together in 1993, will be retired and the new banner will be dedicated to serve in its place.
How to Support the Church Banner Project
The procurement of the new banner will involve significant expense due to the cost of materials, design and construction.
To help get the project to completion, we encourage everyone who is able to send a special gift to the Church Banner Project during the Season of Lent or Eastertide.

Or, on any Sunday in the season, you can place a check in the offering plate and simply write "Banner Project" on the memo line.
If you are placing a cash donation in the offering plate, please use an envelope and write "Banner Project" on the outside.

June 9th Faith in Action program |

What would our communities look like if all the churches got together and prayed for the community, then took action to help those who need help?
We invite our entire community of believers from the local churches to pray together, work together, and help bring healing and recovery through the love of Jesus Christ.
Together we can make a change!

June 12th is Trinity Sunday |
|
|
|
The Sunday that follows Pentecost / Whitsunday is the church's formal celebration of the Holy Trinity .
Linda will lead our 11:00 service on that day.
Also, on June 12th, we encourage you to come to a 10:00 a.m. reading and discussion of The Creed of St. Athanasius in the parish hall.
The Athanasian Creed is an ancient document proclaiming and verifying the nature of the Incarnation and of God as the Holy Trinity.
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, one God: O come let us adore him.

On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Flag of the United States with 13 stripes of red and blue, and a union of stars on a blue field.
The history of the flag also brings the legendary story of Betsy Ross who sewed the first version according to her family memoirs.
The Town of Cowan will celebrate the history, heritage, and unity of "Old Glory" on Tuesday, June 14th, at 6 p.m. in front of the log cabin court house. We hope you can attend!

On Father's Day, June 19th, St. Agnes' will support the "Change for Life" campaign for the Life Choices pregnancy support center.
Life Choices is a dynamic life-nurturing ministry with offices in Coffee, Franklin, and Grundy County.
To participate you can take home and fill up a baby bottle coin jar.

Updates from our extended family |
|
|
|
Please note the following updates and concerns from members of our extended church family:
Cade Archer completed his program of study at Sewanee's School of Theology and will be moving to Arkansas later this month. The congregation gave Cade a round of applause during the service on May 29th. We also got to meet his mother, Nancy, who came up from Texas to help with the big move. Nancy gave a donation to the banner project in honor of Cade's accomplishment.
Wynona Gibson sent some encouraging news: Sandi is home from inpatient rehab and continuing her recovery! Wynona is also considering surgery to correct a shoulder injury and going through the consultation process at this time. Please continue to keep Wynona and her extended family in prayer as every little step is a true and humble blessing!
Linda Hutton is recovering from treatments and procedures related to her skin cancer. She has had some uncomfortable days, but is holding her own, as always! We appreciate and admire Linda's strength and resolve. She is a truly a blessing to our church family!
Peter Hutton started feeling bad during the church service on May 29th. As a precaution, he left church early and made a trip to the emergency room to be assessed. It turned out to be a terrible vertigo episode. Although it was worrisome, Peter is glad that it wasn't anything more serious. We are glad too!
Bill Keller had some difficult days in the last month with fever and nausea. However, he is hopeful that he will be able to get a scheduled PET scan and treatment in early June. Please keep Bill in your daily prayers as he works through his illness and takes each day as it comes.
Dane and Shelia Leitzel had to do some traveling in recent days to visit with family. Dane's brother living in Florida passed away and an Uncle of Shelia's, living in Texas, passed a few days later. Please remember their extended families in prayer.
Wes Nevels passed through Cowan on a short Memorial Day weekend visit. While here he helped place flags in the railroad park and on the graves of veterans at Cowan Montgomery Cemetery. He appreciates all of our prayers and encouragement as he is reaching the end of his contract with the US Marines.
Steve Pearson is going through a process of consulting and evaluation in hope that he can get a surgery that will bring pain relief and greater mobility. Our prayers are greatly appreciated!

We bless and commemorate baby Holland Case Boswell who passed unexpectedly in the womb at 7 months. Please hold his extended family in prayer during their time of great sadness. We are comforted to know that he is received into the loving arms of our Savior and Lord.
We pray for those witnessing increasing danger and crime in different areas of the world. We pray especially for God's help and wisdom in the very troublesome situation in the The Ukraine.
We pray for God's help and wisdom in the school shooting tragedy in West Texas.
We pray for those in our armed service especially Wes Nevels and Anthony Russell.
