Reduced Cost Ethics Training for Professional Engineers
To help our members meet their requirements, the New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers has launched a new online ethics training for professional engineers at a reduced cost.
This two-hour online video, presented by the NJSPE counsel Larry Powers, will provide you with the two credits required for the ethics portion of your professional engineer license. Once the video is viewed in its entirety, you will be e-mailed a certificate proving you have met this licensing requirement.

OSHA advisory committee discusses major industry hazards

The study, conducted by researchers at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), Israel, and Michigan State University (MSU), USA, examined a number of different cellulosic biofuel crops to test their potential as a petroleum alternative in ethanol fuel and electric light-duty vehicles, including passenger cars and small trucks.
According to experts, climate change mitigation scenarios - limiting global temperature increases to 1.5°C - rely on decarbonising vehicle fuel with bioenergy production together with carbon capture and storage (BECCS).

Massachusetts Utility Pleads Guilty to 2018 Gas Explosion
Columbia Gas-the Massachusetts utility responsible for fatal 2018 natural gas explosions and fires north of Boston-is set to plead guilty in a U.S. court in Boston to violations of federal law.
The guilty plea follows a settlement by the firm and its parent company NiSource, to pay a $53 million federal fine.
In announcing the agreement, U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, Andrew Lelling, told reporters that the fine "is by far the largest criminal fine ever imposed under the Pipeline Safety Act."

A Grand Challenge Needs to Inspire Grand Solutions

"Climate change," whatever the cause, is a phrase fraught with controversy. It has become so politicized that the important underlying issues often get lost. Rather than devote an entire column to arguments for or against climate change, I think it's important to instead focus on the abundance of opportunities professional engineers have to invent creative, innovative solutions to issues surrounding environmental sustainability and resilience. And to look at some of the contributions engineers are already making.

How the PE License Can Power a Career

For many engineering students, the PE license is a vague, off-in-the-distance professional goal. If they're lucky, they hear about the license from professors, but the true realization of its importance doesn't hit until they reach the workplace.
NSPE member Ron Black, P.E., was one of those students. But the former electrical engineering student from the University of Missouri-Columbia now has the wisdom that comes with a 33-year (and counting) career. That wisdom comes with a different perspective and appreciation for the license, one he didn't have in the mid-1980s.
