MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
Lots of wonderful community events are happening in Ossining after more than two years that kept us apart from each other.
Friday night, the Ossining Youth Bureau, in partnership with Westchester Dance Artists, hosted the first of what we hope will be many nights of kids dancing. We had over 100 kids sign up for the event – and the kids indeed danced their hearts out.
This past Saturday was opening day for Ossining JCYS Baseball & Softball. They kicked off their day with a parade where teams created a banners with their info and walked from Roosevelt School down to Veterans Park for the first pitch. This is the first time in over two years that the kids were able to do this!
Ossining Recreation and Parks Department with the Ossining Fire Department celebrated the beginning of Spring by escorting our special guest, BIG BUNNY, to almost every area of Ossining!
I am thrilled to share that all three of Ossining Destination Imagination’s competitive teams placed at the New York State Destination Imagination Tournament on April 3, 2022. Destination Imagination is an internationally acclaimed project-based learning STEAM competition, and Ossining has had a local chapter since 2016.
The Sunny Side Up Salad Spinners, a team of AMD students Fauzan Ahmad, Geordanny Cabrera, Kaya Wallace, and Eden Woodley, placed 1st in their technical challenge Daring Escape (middle school level). They scored an astonishing 65 points higher than their closest competitor.
The Loki Ladies, a team of AMD students Elizabeth Morris, Bella McGrath, Nina Mori, Morgan Agid, Taylor Agid, and Karina Umar, placed first in their fine arts challenge Tricky Tales (middle school level). They scored an exceptional 59 points higher than their closest competitor. They even scored higher than all senior-level high school teams.

The Haunted Hudson Five, a team of Claremont students Willow Hicks, Hayley Milano, Madison Milano, Frances Marino, and Isiah Peterson Gutman, placed second in their fine arts challenge Tricky Tales (elementary level). They earned a high score for their illusion element.

The Sunny Side Up Salad Spinners and the Loki Ladies are taking their challenge solution to the next level and will compete at Global Finals, the International tournament in Kansas City, MO, on May 20, 2022.

You can help them Grow for Globals at the Ossining Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 23rd. They will be there to tell you all about their season and distribute seed planting kits in the hopes of attracting donations for their trip.

I had the pleasure of meeting with Council President Izek in Israel while on vacation. He is the equivalent of a mayor for an area comprised of 29,000 people on about 50 square acres (the Village of Ossining is similar in population but sits on 3.2 square acres). We discussed environmental advances like using solar everywhere possible, zoning challenges as his communities grow rapidly, business development, and other interesting, forward-looking ideas. His region sits on the Mediterranean, and we shared some challenges with rising water levels. We hope to continue these conversations in the future.

My warmest wishes for all in our community who are celebrating Ramadan, Passover, and Easter.
