Book Launch and Panel | Architecture of Nature / Nature of Architecture

A panel to discuss the issues raised in Diana Agrest's recent publication,  Architecture of Nature / Nature of Architecture,  featuring Diana Agrest, Beatriz Colomina, Kurt Forster, Peter L. Galison, Caroline A. Jones, Sylvia Lavin, and Paul Lewis.

Drawing inspiration from disciplines ranging from philosophy to the history of science, Agrest uses architecture's modes of seeing and representational techniques as a means to explore the history of the earth. Transcending disciplinary boundaries of architecture, urbanism, and landscape, the book rigorously and creatively examines natural phenomena through original drawings and models.

This event is co-sponsored with The Architectural League of New York.  Tickets  are free.
Panel and Book Launch | Breaking Ground: Architecture by Women

Breaking Ground: Architecture by Women (Phaidon, 2019) is a timely record of the extraordinary contribution women architects have made to the profession. Documenting more than 200 significant buildings designed by women all over the world, this publication is a visual manifesto of outstanding architecture. Marking the celebration of this new book's release will be a panel discussion including Toshiko Mori, AR '76, Mónica Ponce de León and Hilary Sample and more...

This event is free and open to the public. RSVP here.
Exhibition | How to Build a House: Architectural Research in the Digital Age

This exhibition showcases the conception and making of the DFAB HOUSE, the world's first fully inhabited building to have been digitally planned and largely built with the help of robots and 3D printers. How to Build a House is a visual journey through research on the transformation of architecture and construction through computation. The exhibit is an entry point into understanding the digital as a novel domain for architects to draw from at each step of the design, fabrication, and assembly of a building.

Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Friday, 2 - 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 12pm - 7pm

The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Exhibition | Eight Tide Jars

Each of the eight wheel-thrown pieces on display began as a 25 pound extruded brick of industrially processed clay. They were each placed directly on the wheel head (rather than starting with a ball of clay, as is the norm). Each piece typically spends at least a week on the wheel as it is slowly worked from a brick to a ball to a cylinder to an egg to a punched and pounded shadow of its original shape.

Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Friday, 2 - 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 12pm - 7pm

This exhibition is free and open to the public.
