PASTOR'S REFLECTION
Well it seems that all we're thinking about these days is Coronavirus. We're inundated daily with news reports, with speculation, with fears, and with concerns. We even come to church and find precautions in place. No doubt about it, COVID-19 is the subject of the day. And it makes perfect sense to be vigilant; we don't want to put ourselves at risk. All that is true.
However, I went to the Acme the other day, and you can guess what I found. Completely empty shelves where there used to be hand sanitizer and disinfect wipes, a fairly low stock of toilet paper and bottled water, and apparently bags of sugar are going fast too. Amazing.
I returned home to examine my current stock of Clorox wipes (yay, I still have several containers!). I couldn't find the small bottle of hand sanitizer that I usually carry in my purse (I'm a nurse, remember!), so I decided to see if I could buy some online. No way. I can personally vouch for the fact that there is not one bottle of hand sanitizer available online or in any store that I'm aware of. So I threw a handful of alcohol wipes in my purse (I keep them to clean my glasses) and then I decided to make my own hand sanitizer. Well, it wasn't easy, but I finally managed to find a 16 oz. bottle of isopropyl alcohol online as well as a bottle of aloe gel. Both of those items were exceedingly hard to come by, but my alcohol arrived today and, according to Fed Ex, my aloe is arriving tomorrow. And I paid way too much for both items.
So ... my expensive bottles of alcohol and aloe gel are about as far as I will go. That and some common sense measures such as hand washing and helping to facilitate safety measures at church. I'm not stocking up on toilet paper, bottled water, or sugar. I'm not buying surgical masks or isolating myself in the house, and I'm not rushing out to cancel my cruise or my flight to Venice in August.
It's easy to succumb to panic, isn't it? Whether it's fear of Coronavirus or whether it's something else - bad news at work, bad news at the doctor's office, a hurricane or tornado headed our way, a child in trouble, a loved one who hasn't answered your phone calls - it doesn't matter what the precipitating fear is, we tend to allow that sense of panic to overtake our usual calm, cool demeanor. We hate to panic, and yet we do it anyway.
Do you have a stockpile of Scripture verses/passages to refer to when you feel fearful and anxious? Here are some suggestions:
-          Isaiah 43:2
-          Lamentations 3:22-23
-          Matthew 17:20
-          Psalm 23:4
-          John 13:7
-          Romans 8:18
-          2 Timothy 1:7
-          Psalm 147:3-5
-          Hebrews 13:5
-          Jonah 2:2
-          Psalm 121:2
-          Jeremiah 29:11
-          Matthew 6:34
Thank goodness that we have a God who has spoken to us in ways that touch our hearts and souls and give us strength and guidance when we need it the most!

                                                 Pastor Janice
Due to concerns about flu and coronavirus,
we will not be passing the peace during worship.
Please take the time to greet one another verbally before and after worship.
In addition, the offering plates are available for your use at each Sanctuary entrance.
As always, hand sanitizer is on the Welcome Table for your use, if desired.
In an abundance of caution,
the Grace Cafe will be closed until further notice.
Thank you for your understanding.
Nursery Re-Opening This Week

We are happy to announce that our nursery will again be open at both 9:15 & 10:30 beginning this week. In order to minimize the risk of spreading illnesses, the following precautions will be followed:

-          All nursery equipment & toys have been disinfected & will continue to be disinfected weekly.
-          All nursery volunteers have been instructed in proper hand sanitization techniques.
