Dear Families of TBESOC's Aron & Sala Samueli Religious School,

After yesterday’s announcement from the Governor about preventing further spread of COVID-19, our temple Leadership Team and Executive Committee of the Board decided it is in everyone’s best interest to:
  • Suspend in-person Monday Hebrew School sessions and Shabbat Chai programs, starting Monday, March 16.
  • Hebrew instruction on Monday afternoons will instead be taught virtually (links to attend will be posted on the website here.)
  • Shabbat Chai programming on March 27 and April 17 is canceled

These decisions were made with careful consideration and with an abundance of caution and love. Please read here about the entire synagogue’s plan for remote access and cancellations.

Our hope is to offer in-person programming again on or after April 20 (once spring break and Passover closures are complete.) As the situation evolves, we will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation and communicate updates with you weekly.

We are committed to paying our teaching staff through the closure, and invite you to help us make this financial commitment feasible by
  • Making additional contributions online here
  • Not requesting a refund for tuition or program fees and instead making them a donation
  • Pre-paying contributions and catching up on outstanding balances

Following are some resources, and we will continue to share more with you as we navigate this new journey together.

Please call me anytime with any questions, suggestions, or thoughts.

Talking to Children About COVID-19 (Coronavirus) A Parent Resource. The following resource is provided by the National Association of School Nurses and National Association of School Psychologists when talking with children about COVID-19:  Talking to Children About COVID-19 (Coronavirus): A Parent Resource

Each of us can practice these everyday preventative actions recommended by the CDC:
Frequently wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or use the inside of your elbow.
Clean frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Stay home when sick.

If you are a close contact of someone with COVID-19 and develop symptoms of COVID-19, call your healthcare provider and tell them about your symptoms and your exposure. They will decide whether you need to be tested, but keep in mind that there is no treatment for COVID-19 and people who are mildly ill are able to isolate at home.

If you are a resident in a community where there is ongoing spread of COVID-19 and you develop COVID-19 symptoms, call your healthcare provider and tell them about your symptoms. They will decide whether you need to be tested, but keep in mind that there is no treatment for COVID-19 and people who are mildly ill are able to isolate at home.”

From the Orange County Health Care Agency
  • Risk of infection to the public in Orange County is believed to be low
  • At this time, there is no recommendation to cancel business or social events
  • All residents should practice good health hygiene which includes washing your hands, staying home if you are sick, avoiding close contact with people who are sick and covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your sleeve (not hands).
  • CDC guidance indicates that people who have casual contact with a case (in the same grocery store or movie theater) are at minimal risk of developing an infection.
  • If you have not been to China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Italy or been in close contact with someone who has been to one of these countries and is sick, your risk is very low.
  • If you have been to China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Italy and feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, within 14 days after you left one of these countries, you should:
  • Seek medical care. Before you go to a doctor's office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms.
  • Avoid contact with others.
  • Do not travel while sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
