Many of us had hopes that 2020 was going to be an amazing year. A year of clarity, vision and purpose. After all, we are talking about 20/20. Perfect vision. As 2020 comes to a close, we can look expectantly towards a new year, dread what is ahead, or drift along. Yes, the year ended and we are still in a pandemic. We are still dealing with so many uncertainties. My challenge to you is to keep dreaming.
Think about what it would take to be able to say 2021 was an amazing year for my program or my classroom. What are some things you wanted to accomplish? Those things you have talked about, dreamed about, but kept putting off? Maybe you had dreams for 2020 and the pandemic made everything collapse. Are they still important to you? Put them on your list.
Look at your list. Choose one that feels doable and one that will take some effort to make it happen. Write out the steps it will take to accomplish the doable goal. Put dates by each step. Put it on your calendar. If something happens and you miss a step, give it a new deadline. Do not let it fall off your calendar. Now, let's look at the dream that will take more time, energy, effort etc. Put it on your calendar as a weekly event. Then click on it each week and choose one step you can take that will move you closer to your dream. Do it weekly, until you see your dream come true.
If you take the time now to make a plan, you will be able to accomplish more than you ever thought possible. You will be able to see goals and dreams fulfilled. 2020 threw us a major curve ball; however, if you reflect back upon 2020, you will likely find many ways that you have grown. One thing we may be able to learn from this past year, is we do not control what happens around us, but we can control our response. Go ahead. Dream. Plan. Look to 2021 with expectancy.
