LICP President and LIC BID Executive Director, Elizabeth Lusskin, Departs After 8.5 Years

LICP announces the departure of Elizabeth Lusskin, our long-time president. A recognized leader in New York City’s public service community, Liz ushered in a new era for LICP, transforming the organization through a variety of successful programs, initiatives and events. Her efforts to promote the neighborhood's industrial, commercial, residential, tech, social service and cultural assets have aided in LIC becoming one of the most heralded mixed-use communities in the country.

“Getting to lead LICP and the LIC BID during this pivotal period in the history of LIC has been the greatest honor,” said Liz, who departs LICP for Empire State Development (ESD), where she will serve as the organization’s executive vice president of small business and technology development.

NY1 Segment Profiles LIC's Hotel Boom
Tourism is back and LIC's hotels are once again seeing an uptick in occupancy. NY1 reporter Clodugh McGowan profiles the neighborhood via interviews with former LICP president Liz Lusskin and LICP Members Abner Withers, general manager of the Courtyard by Marriott and Allan Johnston, area general manager of Sonder, a new short-term rental company. Long Island City Breweries featured in New York Live's "Best Brews in Long Island City"
New York Live TV host and correspondent Oneika Raymond met with Funky Experiences co-founder Luis Yanes to uncover some of the best brews in Long Island City. Together, they visited Rockaway Brewing Company and Fifth Hammer Brewing Company. Check out the video here.

Runners: Waterfront 5K Next Weekend - June 4
LICP Member Hunters Point Parks Conservancy (HPPC) is hosting its annual Waterfront 5K on Saturday, June 4. More than 1,200 participants have already signed up. The family-friendly event will start at the intersection of Center Boulevard and Borden Avenue at 9 a.m. Children ages 2-9 can take part in the festivities following the conclusion of the 5K. More information here.
Multicultural Celebration at Dutch Kills Playground - June 4
Celebrate diversity at the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition's Multicultural Celebration at Dutch Kills Playground on Saturday, June 4, 12 - 4:30 p.m. Come enjoy an afternoon of performances from artists that will take you around the globe! The event is free event and open to all ages. Details.
LIC Springs! 2022 - June 18
The Countdown Begins
LICP's signature festival and block party, LIC Springs!, returns Saturday, June 18, featuring 100+ local businesses and organizations, including many of the community’s top arts and dining establishments. Now in its ninth year, the free event is back along Vernon Boulevard – the first time since 2019 – and is the perfect way for New Yorkers (and visitors) of all ages to spend a day during the holiday weekend.

What can attendees expect? Live music, dance and performances, plus interactive lessons, art, fitness classes, outdoor dining, pop-up activities, games and more. Looking for something quirky? Activities include a bubble party, Irish dance lessons, a puppy meet & greet, LEGO robotic coding, strength and board breaking contests, massages, costume making and more.

Third Annual Court Square Block Party - June 19
The 3rd Annual Court Square Block Party will take place on Sunday, June 19 on Crescent St, in Long Island City! The Court Square Civic Association and local restaurant M. Wells will host the day filled with activities for all ages, including live music, food, drinks, crafts, a pop-up playground, kiddie pools, puppet acts, comedy, vinyl vendors and more. Crescent Street will be open and car-free, allowing local residents and visitors space to hang outside, relax and enjoy the day with the community. Learn more here.
Mentor a Queens High School Student with iMentor
iMentor is an education non-profit and youth mentoring program working to empower first-generation college students to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions through one-on-one mentorships.

They are looking for 300 mentors to start working with LIC high school students Fall of 2022. Mentors commit to writing mentee once per week and meeting once per month during the school year.

COVID-19 Updates
As of Monday, March 7, restaurants, gyms, and other indoor entertainment venues are no longer required to check customers’ COVID vaccination status. The Key to NYC posters in your storefront are no longer required. More information can be found here.

As of April 11, 2022, NYS Alcoholic Beverage Control Law contains new privileges for on premises licensees to serve liquor and wine "Drinks To-Go" for take-out and delivery. More information can be found here.
