Council 486 Monthly

September 2021

A Message From the Grand Knight

Good Morning Athanasius ,

Your attendance at our upcoming meeting on Thursday, September 9 is especially crucial as we will be holding a Third Degree Exemplification for one of our newest council brothers, Tony Aloia, before voting on the annual budget. I look forward to seeing you all there! I'd also like to thank Charlie Czochanski for his presence at last month's council meeting. It was especially an honor given his lifetime membership, and we hope to see him at our meeting next week.

Per last month's meeting, new council committees have been formed and committee chairmen chosen to lead us in several upcoming campaigns, events, and activities. Please see our Leadership page to view the committee list and check for updates.

We continue to look ahead as we set our sights on further parish outreach and a renewed focus on faith and spiritual formation. We await with anticipation the resumption of Perpetual Adoration in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, and I urge you all -- if you are able -- to commit an hour per week. We also look forward to several upcoming events, including the Hispanic Food Festival on September 12, the Officer Installation, and the Council Family Picnic, among others.

Last but certainly not least, please play for our brother knight Larry, his wife, Lisa, and daughter, Nicole, for a speedy recovery from COVID-19. I also ask that you please continue to keep Charles Giles in your prayers as he recovers from the coronavirus and underlying lung issues.

Blessed Fr. Michael J. McGivney, pray for us!

Vivat Jesus,

Kevin St. Pierre, GK

August Meeting Minutes Review

Thursday, August 12, 2021

The Meeting was called to order at 8:20pm by Grand Knight Kevin St. Pierre

Opening Prayer was offered by Chaplain Father Dennis Nikolic.

Topics presented and covered include:

  • 2021-2022 budget to be sent out to all council members.
  • Supreme has introduced a Catholic Citizenship Essay contest; individual with the best essay wins a reward of a $500 scholarship.
  • There will be a golf outing on Tuesday, September 21 for the Hudson Valley Chapter Knights of Columbus; our council will sponsor a foursome for the tournament.
  • Report of Committees:
  • Sick Committee:
  • Mass will be offered for Lisa and Larry Bedosky.
  • Mass will be offered for Betty M. on Sunday September 19 at the 9 AM English Mass.
  • Mass will be offered on Sunday October 3, 2021 at 9 AM English mass.
  • Pro Life Committee:
  • Orange County Right to Life meeting to be held Friday August 13; Chairman Paul Dickson will report back with any updates.
  • Awaiting an official date for the 2021 Orange County Life Chain.
  • The National March for Life is scheduled for January 21 2022.
  • Unplanned film screening TBD; more to follow
  • Shirts Committee: Steve Merschen continues collecting information for shirts; Larry Bedoski will place the order.
  • District Deputy’s Report: The Semi-Annual Audit is due by the August 15 and will be addressed by the Treasurer and Financial Secretary.
  • All brothers should consider taking an hour slot for Adoration in the chapel upon its potential reopening for Perpetual Adoration in the fall. We are also looking into being the first point of contact for those in need of substitutes for their slot should they not make their assigned hours. Chaplain Father Dennis also weighed in on the urgency needed for the knights to participate in the covering of Adoration hours, particularly overnight. The pressing need is for the men of the parish to act as guards in the middle of the night and late night hours. Father has asked that we prayerfully consider helping our parish with this effort.
  • The Spanish Food Festival is is on Sunday September 12. We have been asked to go and support this event and wear our Knights of Columbus shirts to show our support as a council. The council has already agreed to buy 10 raffle tickets; should we win, we will donate the proceeds to the church.
  • We are looking into the 2nd Thursday of September to hold the Exemplification of Officers.
  • Installation of Officers: Date TBD as we wait for all members to be well and available. We are potentially looking into the 4th Thursday of September.
  • Squires Exemplification: Potentially to be held on a Sunday in the Fall.
  • This summer, the hallway in the parish center gymnasium will be painted. New cabinets will be added into the hallway along with that renovation.
  • Grand Knight Kevin St. Pierre introduced the idea of taking a weekend to clean out the cabinet that we have and clean the meeting room, kitchen, refrigerators, and freezer.
  • The idea of distributing Catechisms for each family in the parish was discussed. We are looking into beginning with informational inserts into the parish bulletin before possibly moving forward with Catechisms at a later time.
  • On Sunday, August 8, Ray McNamara and Carl Williams Jr. were present at the Promenade Retirement Home as the local Girl Scout troop delivered a car load of cookies that were purchased by the Knights of Columbus for the seniors living there.
  • It was brought up that we should reinstate The Calling Post to ensure that members who are home-bound are getting up-to-date information and reminders about our meetings.
  • Knights of Columbus Yankee game will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021.
  • Food Coordinator Jimmy Applegate requests from members suggestions for refreshments at upcoming meetings
  • Grand Knight Kevin St. Pierre encourages the brother knights to take advantage of the webinars offered by Supreme and would like the council to possibly take a Thursday in the month to view them.
  • Lecturer’s Report: Worthy Lecturer Joe Brennan reported on St. Clare of Assisi who the Church celebrated on August 11. St. Clare is the patroness of laundry and television. We were also reminded that Sunday, August 15 is the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady and the 40th annivesary of the founding of EWTN.
  • Chaplain’s Summation: Father Dennis informed the council that going forward, both he and Fr. Kevin will be more present at our meetings. Further, he encouraged us to remain united in prayer and with one another.

After Father Dennis led us in Closing Prayer, the meeting was adjourned at 9:10pm.
