NJCAA Recieves Sports Destination Management Award
Sports Destination Management, the leading publication with the largest circulation of sports event planners and tournament directors in the sports tourism market, has announced the 2019 Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism. This year’s winners are responsible for contributing more than $1 billion to the national economy over the past year and for the second consecutive year, the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division III World Series, hosted by the Sports Council of the Tourism Department has won! All winners of awards have been recognized in a special feature published in the November/December 2019 issue of Sports Destination Management. Festival of Trees
The Tourism Department sends a huge thanks out to the 56 businesses, churches and organizations that supported the annual Greeneville Tourism Festival of Trees that took place from November 17-26 in the Greeneville Commons. The event hosted more than 2,000 people from across the region participating in the 10-day silent auction. New to this year, Tourism teamed up with Kiwanis Club of Greeneville for “Pictures with Santa” on Saturday, November 23
rd
. More than 150 children of all ages and their parents visited the Festival to get their photo made, enjoy hot cider and cookies, write letters to Santa and vote on their favorite entry. Sammy the Shark also made a special Christmas appearance. The 2019 People’s Choice entry went to Merkel Brothers Construction. This entry will be featured on the 2020 poster. Trash to Art Contest
Congratulations to the winners of the 2019 Keep Greene Beautiful Trash Art Contest. Students were encouraged to develop creative ways in which to recycle using something that they would normally throw away. The contest was held in conjunction with America Recycles Day. Adopt-A-Road
Keep Greene Beautiful is proud to announce a new Adopt-A-Greene County Road participant.
Linda Greer Kelley & Deanna Johnson have adopted Spencer Street. The Adopt-A-Greene County Road program provides individuals or groups like Kelley & Johnson the opportunity to become involved with the preservation of our county’s natural beauty by picking up roadside litter on at least a quarterly basis.
