In late February, New Mexico joined more than a dozen other states by enacting its “red flag” gun law, known as the Extreme Risk Firearm Protection Order Act, which takes effect May 20, 2020.
Notably, the new law
allows employers, among others, to file affidavits requesting a law enforcement agency to petition a court for a civil order requiring an individual to surrender their firearms.
