From the Principal
Good morning WMS families,

The end of last week brought with it a lovely taste of spring. As the weather begins to warm, much excitement is on the horizon at WMS.

All In:
Last Wednesday, The Wayland School Committee voted to have WMS return to an “all in” model beginning Tuesday, April 27, 2021, allowing us to reunite Cohort A and Cohort B for in person learning five days a week. We are in full planning mode, redesigning the master schedule, ordering new furniture to accommodate three feet of distance, and thinking through lunch and dismissal logistics. While many students are cheering to hear the news others are expressing worry about reducing social distancing measures to three feet. Please don’t hesitate to let us know how we can support your student through the upcoming transition. We will share plans around the new model as they solidify. Please know that WRAP will continue throughout this year and any family considering a switch into WRAP should see Dr. Parry’ Graham’s email from Friday 3/12 and please complete this form

Screenagers Next Chapter:
Next month the WMS PTO is sponsoring an opportunity to view: Screenagers Next Chapter: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience (63 minutes). This movie is the sequel to Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age.  WMS families will have access to a link to view this film from April 5th through April 16th. I hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to watch this documentary and join me for a live discussion about the film facilitated by Lindsay Steinsieck, Associate Director at HRS - The Human Relations Service. Please be sure to RSVP for this PTO event HERE

Transition to High School:
It is the time of year where our focus turns to helping our 8th graders make a successful transition to high school. Their three years with us are flying by! The 8th graders will be receiving course recommendations in the coming weeks and learning about a variety of electives they may consider. This month they will hear directly from WHS guidance counselors and WHS students. Additionally, Dr. Mizoguchi and her team at WHS will be hosting a Zoom evening meeting for parents and guardians to learn about life at the high school and the many opportunities offered there at 7 PM on March 24th. Please save the date. We will be sending home a more detailed letter later this week.

Hope you have a terrific week.

Respectfully,
Betsy Gavron
