Early Childhood Parent Organization (ECPO) at Merrill Elementary Allocates Funding for School Instruments
At the October ECPO meeting its members voted to allocate money for the music department to purchase instruments. Thanks to all of the Merrill families!! They couldn’t have done this without everyone’s support.
There are 5 meetings left this school year. Please join them and help them decide on where the money raised should be spent. Those meeting dates are as follows: 2/6, 3/5, 4/2, 5/7 and 6/4 all from 6:30-7:30p in the Merrill School library .
Historical Tidbit:

Our Scouts

Last week marked the anniversary of the beginning of Scouting. On Jan 24, 1900, English war hero Robert Baden-Powell produced a publication: Scouting for Boys. Lessons on tracking, observation and organized games quickly caught on with the English boys. Baden-Powell began organizing and teaching boys camping, woodcraft, boating, patriotism and chivalry.

When an American, Chicago publisher William Boyce, was visiting London in 1909, he became lost in the fog and was aided by a Boy Scout! This Scouts gesture of kindness and humility inspired Boyce to organize several regional U.S. organizations.

On Feb 8, 1910, Boy Scouts of America was incorporated and in June of that same year, a group was founded by Frank O. Carpenter. Then a Department of New England was organized and based in Boston under Chief Department Scout General William H. Oakes.

In 1911, Juliette Gordon Low, an American from Savannah, Georgia, met Robert Baden-Powell in England and began organizing Girl Guide groups. On March 12th 1912, Juliette began a group in Savannah. Her goal was to get girls out of homes and expose them to the same adventures boys their age experienced. Teaching courage, confidence and character. Massachusetts Girl Scouts were founded by Miss Edith Sinnett and Mrs. Edith Newell at Camp Bonnie Brae in the Berkshire Mountains.

Our local Boys and Girls are joined with over 6 million active Scouts across America. From their very beginning and throughout the years Scouts have been doing their duty and doing their best to God, to Country, to others and to self. Lets do our best to support our Scouts.

Shoveling Tips for a Healthy Spine
• Layer clothing to keep your muscles warm and flexible.
• Do some warm-up stretching before you grab that shovel.
• Push the snow straight ahead. Walk it to the snow bank. Avoid sudden twisting and turning motions.
• Bend your knees to lift when shoveling. Let the muscles of your legs and arms do the work, not your back.
• Take frequent rest breaks to take the strain off your muscles. A fatigued body asks for injury.
• Stop if you feel chest pain, get tired or have shortness of breath.

Notice on REAL IDs
In case you haven't heard, after October 1, 2020, you will need a REAL ID or a passport to fly within the United States or enter federal buildings.

You can get a REAL ID when you renew your licence at the RMV or AAA center if you have AAA. The AAA center is less crowded, so I'd go there if you are a AAA member.

Speaking Your Truth

“Living with integrity means: Not settling for less than what you know you deserve in your relationships. Asking for what you want and need from others. Speaking your truth, even though it might create conflict or tension. Behaving in ways that are in harmony with your personal values. Making choices based on what you believe, and not what others believe.”
~ Barbara De Angelis

“Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.”
~ Warren Wiersbe

“Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving.” ~ James E. Faust
Solid, trusting, healthy relationships are based on truth.
You are not helping anyone when you don't share the pain you feel. Speak your truth.
