You Need to Know
  • The 2020 2021 Academic Calendar is available in the Calendar Group in the Parent section of our school website, here.

  • Last call for Family Fun & Field Day t-shirts! If you would like to order one for your student(s) or family members, please send cash or check to the school office [payable to Immanuel Lutheran, with field day shirt in memo line]. Most families ordered t-shirts at the end of last school year with the registration completion paperwork for this year. Please indicate size: Youth Small – Adult XL = $10, XXL = $15. Deadline to order is Fri., Feb. 7

  • Reminder! If your student misses more than three days of school, a doctor's note stating s/he is able to return to school is required. [Please see Student and Family Handbook, page 9, under the section, Absence, that begins on page 8.]

  • 2020-2021 Registration materials were sent home last Friday.

  • All students must be supervised by a parent after school hours while on school grounds

  • Cell phones and other electronic devices may not be turned on or used during the school day, on field trips (unless permission is given by the teacher), or during after-school activities. If used, they will be collected and held for pickup by the parent. The school will not be liable for lost, broken or missing phones and devices that are brought to school. Unauthorized use of cell phones and devices will result in a behavioral detention and confiscation of the device, which will be held for pick up by the parent or guardian. Suspension of the student may also result. Immanuel reserves the right to search student cell phones and devices if there is reasonable suspicion that there has been a violation of school rules. Before 8 AM and after 3:30 PM, students are to keep their cell phone and other devices on silent or vibrate and out of sight. Cell phones are not to be used for unsupervised entertainment purposes on school grounds or on field trips.

  • Students in grades K-G6 received reading logs for the Six Flags Reading program, Read to Succeed. Students are required to read six hours between now and Apr. 15. New this year is that all minutes will be recorded on students' elogs online. Instructions on registering and completing logs is included on the flyer that all students received this week in their Friday Folders (K-G5) or in their mailboxes (G6). If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Suydam.
Principal's Corner

It’s the time of year when our students participate in several academic competitions—a great way to glorify God with their gifts and talents! Last week was our annual Geography Bee. Congratulations to finalists G4- 8: Angelo M., Isabella T., Linnea P., Clara B., Bryan L., Julia S., Julia V., Nick F., and Matthew P. Our champion was Gabe S., G6. This week was our annual Spelling Bee. Congratulations to our G4-8 finalists Mason A., Greyson G., Ava A., Clara B., Madeline C., Nathan A., Evan B., Rose D., and Colleen S. Champion was Luke F, G6. He has the opportunity to advance to Kane County Regional Semi-Finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Our Math Club is starting and will compete at IMSA in March.

Our students continue to learn about their relationship with God through prayer. Our middle school students shared with Mrs. Bierlein that they love Immanuel and would love for others to come to our school so that they can have the same experiences and opportunities. Mrs. Bierlein suggested that they pray about that, and they did. We’ve recently added a couple of new students to our middle school, and each time students made a comment about how they saw that God really does answer their prayers.

In Wendy Nelson’s preschool 4s class, the Star Student of the Week gets to sit in the middle of the rug, and everyone else in the class places their hands on the Star Student or a nearby friend. Together they pray over the Star Student, thanking God for that friend. If the Star Student does not care to be touched, the closest-sitting friend can lay their hands on the rug next to the Star. Mrs. Nelson then talks with her class about how we are all connected as we pray to God.

Mrs. Suydam noticed the article in News & Notes about praying every day at 1 PM for 1 minute for 1 person. She was concerned that it might be difficult to continue after Christmas vacation because she teaches at that time. However, God revealed to her that she could simply pause for 1 minute at 1 PM and pray with her class. At first, she began the prayer and then the class finished with a silent prayer. However, her students soon wanted to begin the prayer time themselves with prayers for each other, as well as family and friends. Mrs. Suydam says that listening to their prayers and hearing the confidence in their voices as they talk to our heavenly Father is very uplifting. These are the moments that remind us of how truly blessed we are to serve in a Lutheran school!

Online Option for Donating to Chapel Offerings
If adults would like to donate to charities that our students support through their chapel offerings, that can now be done online by clicking on the link here .

We encourage students to continue to bring their chapel offerings to place in the plate or box during chapel, as this is a tangible way for them to learn about stewardship and supporting God's work in His Kingdom.

Each month during the school year a different charity receives 100 percent of chapel offerings collected. The charities for the remainder of the school year are listed below.

  • Jan. – LCC Comfort Dogs Human-care and compassion ministry utilizing specially trained purebred Golden Retrievers.
  • Feb. – Adopt-A-Student at Concordia Seminary Financial support for a future Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod pastor.
  • Mar. – Hearts for Jesus/Lutheran Heritage Foundation Translates and distributes Bibles, Luther’s Small Catechism, and Bible stories in more than 100 languages.
