We Gather to Give video, part 1
Dear Friends,

You may think that we are crazy to call our pledge campaign We Gather to Give when our COVID numbers are so high here in Florida. I have thought and prayed a lot about this, and I feel that we must gather, even if it is virtually. I have seen the destruction that occurs when loneliness and isolation take over a person’s life. They lose perspective, mental health slips, neurological functioning drops, alcoholism rises, and depression can ensue. We must gather!

When God created this world, God said something really important. God said,
It is not good for man to be alone ~Genesis 2:18

God was naming a deep truth about the human condition. It is not good for any of us to be alone. We were made in the image of God together, male and female…
So God created humankind in his image,
In the image of God he created them,
Male and female he created them ~Genesis 1:27

We must gather. It is who we are. We need one another to live into our full humanity. I want you to contact your fellow believers and just be together for a short time. I promise that it will be life-giving.

Pam Searcy is working hard to help you each find a group with whom to meet. Please let her know your preferences and be willing to pray together, to talk to each other, just for one hour, one time this fall. I am going to attend as many meetings as I can.

Come together in small groups as the church in any way that feels safe to you. Let's remember that we are in this together, and we are so grateful to be a part of this community.

In Christ’s love,
Kate+

Why Pledge?
A pledge is a commitment, made after deliberate and prayerful consideration, to contribute a specific amount of money to the parish community. It is a reflection of your gratitude for the abundant blessings God has given you.
Pledging to give on a regular basis enables the Vestry to make realistic budget projections for the coming calendar year. We hope that all households will make a stewardship pledge, even if it is only a small amount per week, as an expression of an ongoing commitment to St. John's Cathedral.

In summary, here are three reasons why pledges are key to the health of our Cathedral:
  • Pledges are a way to include Cathedral members in the mission of St. John's Cathedral.
  • Pledges help us plan and budget for the future.
  • Pledges help to fund Cathedral operations.

Assistance needed in the wake of Hurricane Ida
On Sunday, August 29, sixteen years after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Hurricane Ida made landfall in the same region. This Category 4 storm brought flooding and damaging winds that caused a loss of water to hundreds of thousands and a loss of electricity to over 1 million people. Episcopal Relief & Development is working closely with the Diocese of Louisiana and other regional partners in what will be a long-term response. Your generous gift will help alleviate suffering for the most vulnerable residents impacted by Hurricane Ida. Please visit episcopalrelief.org/hurricane-relief to make a gift today.
Help people impacted by earthquake in Haiti
All funds raised by the sale of Native Fresh greens on Sundays will now be donated to the Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD) Fund for Haiti. Here are other ways to help and more information about what ERD is doing in Haiti right now.

It is also possible to give to St. John's Cathedral and designate Haiti Relief in the memo. Your check will be sent to ERD to help those in Haiti.

Diocese of Florida Prayer for the Election of Our Bishop
Almighty God, giver of every good gift, we pray that you would look graciously upon the Diocese of Florida, and so guide the minds and hearts of the Nominating Committee as they prayerfully select candidates for the election of the next bishop of this diocese, that we may receive a faithful pastor who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries: Guide also the minds and hearts of the candidates who will come before the Nominating Committee, that this process will be a time of discernment and growth in their lives and ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
