Connections
July 8, 2020
Do you ever feel like running away to hide where no one can ask you questions, tell you what to do or how much you have left undone - where no one can make demands on you or point an accusing finger at your shortcomings? The next time you need a place to hide, try God.

HE IS OUR REFUGE.

He stands ready to welcome you in His grace, to purge your penitent heart with His pardon, to be your mighty Fortress in the hour of temptation, and to embrace you in His arms of mercy when you have nothing to give but up!

"But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble." Psalm 59:16
2020 Administrators Leadership Conference
Our Administrators Leadership Conference starts today!  If you have not yet registered, click here to register today!  We have worked very hard to craft a conference for you that speaks specifically to spiritual wellness, H.O.P.E., and leadership topics surrounding reopening your schools in light of COVID-19. We have done everything possible to make this conference accessible to every administrator and leader in our PSD schools. You do not want to miss this critical and valuable information. There are three sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, and two on Friday. Each is approximately an hour long.

We also are excited to introduce our new initiative to help strengthen the instruction and student engagement in your schools.  Dr. Bill Daggett, world-renowned educational leader, will be with us live and in person leading today's afternoon session!

If you absolutely cannot log in to attend live, but would like to view the recorded sessions, we still need you to register for the event.  Only registered attendees will have permission and access to view the recorded sessions. "See" you soon!

Hearts for Jesus Update
Thank you to all the generous supporters of Hearts for Jesus this year. Contributions have reached $23,408.36 , which will provide funds for 975 students to attend Children’s Bible Clubs, sponsored by Mission India, where children will hear the message of God’s love for them, and learn of Jesus as their Savior.

As the Hearts for Jesus mission project for this school year is coming to a close, please send your contribution for Hearts for Jesus to the district office by July 31. At that time, we will send our 2019-2020 Hearts for Jesus offering to Mission India. Funds received after July 31 will be applied to the Hearts for Jesus project for next year.

TEC21 News
Enrollment at our Las Vegas and Orange County centers is almost full! We still need teachers for San Diego and Phoenix! San Diego and Phoenix schools – send one or two teachers to this very valuable professional development! Learning never ends…especially when it comes to technology!

From TEC21:

TEC21 HAS EXTENDED REGISTRATION! The experience of rolling out emergency remote learning plans this spring reminded TEC21 facilitators of two very important things very quickly.

1. Our teachers need to be competent and confident in using technology to enrich their instruction.
2. Our teachers need a network of others to learn and grow from that is outside of their own buildings.

TEC21 employs some of the brightest minds in Lutheran Education to help prepare teachers for whatever is thrown their way. Last month, the TEC21 Facilitators Academy produced some of the best curriculum and learning activities to date, so don’t miss the opportunity to enroll your teachers. Consider teachers on your staff who you think could benefit from additional training.

Register your teachers here:  http://tec21connect.com/registration/ ! Many schools use Title money to pay for some or all of the registration fee. Click here to download a cover letter and a non-religious description of the program to submit to your Title officer: https://tec21connect.com/registration/title-ii-funds/ .

Prayer Requests
Each week, prayers of thanksgiving and prayers for teachers, administrators, support staff, pastors, students, and families of the Lutheran schools, early childhood centers, and churches of the Pacific Southwest District are listed. To include names on the list, please send information to [email protected] by noon on Wednesday of each week. This week we pray for:

  • the Lord to grant us His grace and peace. We pray for Him to give us new eyes to see. We pray that the power of the Spirit will root out the seen and unseen sins of ignorance, intolerance, hatred, and racism in our world and in the Church. We pray that we will celebrate God’s unique creation in each person, race, and culture, knowing that we are more complete as people when we stand together. Lord, bring hope and healing to our cities, states, nation, and world.
  • COVID-19 -- for infection rates to slow and cease; that those who have been infected will heal quickly; that healthcare staff and first responders will be sustained as they carry this very heavy burden; that our churches, schools and preschools would be sustained and reliant on our loving God and His guidance; for courage and peace for our pastors, lay leaders, church and school administrators, faculties, and all church and school workers who are making difficult decisions and creating innovative solutions for continuing to reach people for the sake of the Gospel; for our federal, state and local leaders to seek God's will as they make important decisions and take actions against this disease; for God to bring many, many people to faith through this situation, and that His Church would be more effective than ever in sharing the Gospel with the lost and loving our neighbors.
