APRIL 6, 2022
Members Mary Virginia and Jeff Gage collaborated in the design, baking, and execution of our delicious birthday cake, a replica of our church. Mary Virginia was raised at Vineville, and here, she and Jeff stand with her mother, long-time member Laurie Kay, by their beautiful cake. Thank you for this delicious and incredible creation which was an integral part of our 175th Birthday Celebration!
PALM SUNDAY
Calling all coats, caterpillars, and children for Palm Sunday! This Sunday, we will be celebrating Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem with a palm processional led by our children at both services. To remember those who laid their cloaks down for Jesus' entrance, we will also be collecting coats that will go to one of our local outreach ministries. You may place the coats on the altar rail in the CLC when you come for worship.

If you have a caterpillar friend at home, remember to bring them back this Sunday so we can release them on Easter. We're looking forward to welcoming Jesus with you this Sunday. See you at 9 or 11!

CLASS OF 2022 SENIOR SUNDAY
Senior Recognition Sunday: May 1st

Parents of Graduating Seniors,

Senior Recognition Sunday is May 1st! This is a very special day in the life of our VM Family. If you are the parent, or guardian of a graduating senior (member or not), we would love for you and your family to be a part of this special day! Let me tell you about it.

We start off with our Senior Brunch at 10:00 a.m. for all the seniors and their families.  For that, I just need to know if you'll be attending and how many will be in your party. We'll take care of the rest!

The actual service takes place at 11:00 a.m. in the CLC at Vineville. This is where the whole church family gets together to cheer on our graduates. Once again, I get to bring a final message to my seniors. We will also be giving out several SCHOLARSHIPS that your student may apply for. (NOTE: Some of the scholarships are available for non-members as well, so please apply.)

What I Need From You: Simply send an e-mail to Mike Kinnebrew at mikekinnebrew@gmail.com  and let me know if your family will be able to join us. I will then send you the scholarship application and the form to fill out for the senior booklet. Easy as pie!

THE DEADLINE FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AND
SENIOR QUESTIONNAIRES IS WEDNESDAY, 4/6.

Let's get excited!
Mike

The caterpillars are here! If you didn't get one, you can still stop by and pick one up from the church. If you did get one, please return them by April 10, so we can release them as beautiful, painted lady butterflies on Easter morning.

REV. DON WOOD IS UMAC
HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE
Hundreds of United Methodist communicators were honored March 31 with an awards celebration live-streamed from McKendree United Methodist Church, Nashville, to communicators, bishops, and others across the denomination.

The United Methodist Association of Communicators (UMAC) Hall of Fame inductee Rev. Dr. Don Wood is an ordained elder in the UMC who received his Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University and his doctorate from McCormick Theological Seminary at the University of Chicago. In 1977, he became the executive director of Good News Television (GNTV), a ministry of the South Georgia Annual Conference.

When he retired in 2012, GNTV supported an average of 65 events per year and produced 15 videos each year. During his ministry he traveled to every state in The United States and 15 countries around the world, taping and supporting events. Since his retirement, he has continued to travel and proudly work on church events around the world.

James Salley, president and chief executive officer of Africa University (Tennessee) Inc., one of three entities that run Africa University in Zimbabwe, introduced Wood. Salley noted he cannot think of a better person than Wood to receive the honor of being inducted into UMAC’s Hall of Fame.

“Don Wood is a pastor, a communicator extraordinaire, and an entrepreneur,” Salley said, noting Wood embodies the Greek proverb that societies become great when old men and old women plant trees under whose shade they know they will never sit. “He is a tree planter and a person who has a heart of gold and who is a servant of God.”

Wood, joined onstage by his wife and son, hugged Salley in gratitude as he accepted the award. “I didn’t do it,” Wood said simply of all his honors and accomplishments. “God did.”
